1929 Lincoln Touring 7 Passenger Dual Windshield Phaeton

Automobile manufacturers always tried to create an identity for their brand names.   Henry Ford chose to designate Lincoln as his luxury line of automobiles and in the classic car era proceeded to focus on quality over size and extreme design.   The V8 that were used in the Lincolns of the era were considered bullet proof and very powerful for their day.   Most car collectors that have experience with the other classics of 1929 say that Lincoln was definitely one of the best handling of all the luxury cars.   Lincoln was one of the top selling brands and competed very well with Packard & Cadillac.

It is interesting to note that by 1928. Ford claimed that his Lincolns were so far developed that it was not necessary for yearly changes and the only time that changes would be needed was when the envisioned future ideas could be put into the reality of a product improvement.

The 1929 Lincoln was very similar to the 1928 Lincoln which had been received by great acclaim from the general buying public before the stock market crash.   Again improvements were made as they could be conceived.   The oil pressure was increased from 30 pounds to 50 pounds and a stronger starter and generator were put in place.

The 1929 Lincoln seven passenger Phaeton included such other improvements as safety glass in all windows and all models had two windshield wipers instead of one.   The car even had an electric clock replaced the old spring wound clock.

It is funny to note in the October 1929 issue of the British magazine called Auto Car they said “Such a superb motor car that it is difficult to realize that Henry Ford is associated with it.   The new style of the coachwork is extremely smart in appearance but has simple business like lines”.

The 1929 Lincoln Seven Passenger Touring Dual Windshield Phaeton that you see in this auction was careful restored by a collector so as to be a contender for a prize at any serious car show (note restoration was done many years ago) and was also setup not only for the beauty of the cosmetic restoration but also to be mechanically dependable for touring.   The collector has been known to fill up every seat in the seven-passenger capacity of this car and go on long club tours.

V8. 364 cu. in. engine with 3-speed floor shift. The car is fully accessorized with a dual windshield. road lights. dual side mounts and side mount mirrors. trunk rack with appropriate trunk and trunk cover and Pilot Ray road light.   Wire wheels and 7. 00x20 white wall tires.   Tan canvas roof.   The burgundy leather interior is a work of art.   Mileage 77. 95 (owner states probably original).

The car starts. stops and runs as it should.   Excellent white wall tires and is certainly our favorite color scheme of maroon and black accented by a sharp tan top that sports matching maroon piping.   The lines are very sporty and the attention to detail is very obvious when scrutinizing the photos and the videos in this auction.   Click on the arrow on the video twice to enlarge to full screen viewing.   At the time this auction started we did not have the mileage on the odometer and we indicated 100 above as eBay requires mileage be indicated.

MissChiTown has been told by many collectors that collect classic cars like Packard. Cadillac & Lincolns. that the 1929 Lincoln will easily outrun anything that Packard or Cadillac was producing in that year.   When you close one of the doors on a Lincoln Phaeton it is like closing the door on a bank vault. it just has that special sound to it.   The engine of course is very quiet and pulls like a freight train.

This is an opportunity to get a car that has been fully restored many years ago and still has potential for prizes at a concours and also can take a family of seven on a very long and comfortable ride. The dual windshield is setup very interestingly enough to act as a second windshield for the rear seat passengers or the windshield can swing out in the front and back and act as a side window wind buffers for the front and back passengers (a very clever and novel second windshield).

This is a car that has been highly sorted out many years ago and undoubtedly can use a freshening up. tune up and clean up for next year's tour and show circuit.

Whether you are a collector of full spectrum Lincolns or a collector that only has one car. take a good look at this ready to go. restored Lincoln.

Please note that the photo of the Seven Passenger touring car pictured from the brochure is not the actual car that is being sold (all other photos are of the car for sale in this auction).   The ad is just being presented because of the beauty of the ad and the beauty of the car as it pertains to the original sales brochure.
