Beautiful Porsche 924S 2.5L Tax/Mot Previous Owner 23 Years Very Low Mileage FSH for sale

Current customer rating: current rating for this car(2.5) based on 498 votes
Stunning condition & very pampered 1986 Porsche 924S Coupe. my car for the previous 4 years. Previous lady owner/collector 20 years. full service history & only 69. 00 miles since new.

Highly reluctant possible sale of a very beloved Porsche. It was my original intention to keep this car for life but I have made an offer on my dream house & need to raise funds before the April end completion date. so any sale would be in a practical cause at least! If no sale has been agreed for the car by mid April & I am still short of required funds I shall put the car up to auction. If I make the funds from elsewhere the car will be withdrawn from sale immediately.
Personal History With The Car
I bought my first classic/performance car many years ago which was also a Porsche 924S (C58 TJM) It took me 49. 00 miles & all across Europe with one single breakdown (voltage regulator malfunctioned in Spolleto. Tuscany) 50 euro's later & the next day we were safely in Monaco. I finally sold it with just shy of 200. 00 miles on the clock several years ago & I believe it is still going strong. I subsequently bought a Porsche 928s S1 manual. (nice car too thirsty & cumbersome) A 911S 3. 0 SC (Lovely. but highly impractical in every sense) a 944 S2 Turbo (no torque. horribly stiff handling & uncomfortable in the extreme. Also far too fast for the brain to cope with!!) Finally deciding through experience that the Porsche 924S was by far the best car of them all in terms of reliability. even torque. sublime & fun handling with beautiful balance & poise (when on 195/65/15 tyres) A fuel tank that I'd managed to cover 450 miles through France one night. & most importantly I did not look like a pretentious idiot when driving or breaking down in it. as so often happened in all of the other Porsches! My friends & family all loved C58TJM. So I decided I would find & buy as close to perfect example of a Porsche 924S as could be found.

Mrs Sunita Crawford a retired physician from Edinburgh had bought this Porsche in 1987 on a Porsche forecourt. She kept it for me with no deposit asked for 3 months so I could finish my work commitments & I would travel up. by the car & travel every inch of the Scottish coast as my first journey in it. When I met her she explained she had only ever driven it over 100 miles per hour once (just to see what it felt like!) & I found it out in her garage next to her beautiful baby blue Frog Eyed Sprite (MINT) she had bought in 1960 & her modern Mercedes SLK. I spoke to Brian Miller. Sunita's Mechanic for the past 18 years & he said the car was immaculate. original throughout & a joy to work on as Sunita only ever drove it in the sunshine & took such care of her beloved cars. He said that in her whole time with the car Brian had always told her she should have it machine polished. but she refrained saying she liked it just the way it was!
After travelling every inch of the Scottish coast in my new Porsche I could not believe the difference between this & my first one I bought at 147. 00 miles. The oil pressure never dropped below 3 Bar. the gearbox was like new. & the whines I thought were part of the 924S experience were limited to the balance belt only. The car was absolutely stunning. What I found most extraordinary whereas my first 924S would average a steady 29-30MPG. Sunita (as we named her obviously!) would continue to return between 33-36 MPG. Now that is a practical performance classic in my book. The one thing I decided I would change after negotiating the winding cliff edge descents at Applecross were the brakes. They were very spongy & would fade very quickly.

Work done in last 4 years
Over the previous 4 years. travelling 17. 00 miles in the car including through the Slovakian mountains & Czech last winter I have had not one single breakdown. In the first two years of my ownership though. my mechanic changed the brake discs & pads with Brembo's. I sourced better shock absorbers from KONI. they are fully adjustable Koni 8641-1414S with car lifetime warranty. The type used by Porsche on their limited edition 924S Le Mans & also the 924 Carrera I believe. My mechanic also fitted these with new springs & reconditioned the existing struts. In late April 2011 my mechanic fitted a new cambelt & balance shaft belt + both tensioners. The mileage then was 61. 56. 8000 miles ago & good for many more miles.
At the end of that month I took the car up to Tom Ferguson. for him to double check the newly fitted balance belt & adjust suspension. I asked him to level the car (rake) to absolute horizontal & perform a thorough safety inspection & small service.
After this I had the handling geometry set up by a multiple 924S race winner. to adjust all camber & castor angles to my exact requirements on all 4 wheels. It cost just under £400 (receipt in file) but the Porsche now had lost none of it's character the poise & subtle balance was still there but corner roll was reduced & high speed steering accuracy was improved greatly. The brakes are very evenly balanced & to my mind the car is as safe as a 924S can be for dry weather driving. The handling is not over sharp or sensitive but is remarkably accurate & predictable. I had the castor angle set quite forward & the camber not too steep as I prefer the lightness at lower speeds & enjoy the natural high speed cornering ability the 924S has. Incidentally the car does have powered steering.
Before leaving for Eastern Europe in January 2012 I had a stainless steel full exhaust pipe fitted & all 4 wheel bearings changed (rear ones are very difficult to get to) & a full service performed.
There are receipts for all of the above. I am sure there is plenty more I have had done but I think this paints the picture well enough. I wanted to keep the car as original to base as possible & make improvements where necessary. without changing the beautiful feel of any well preserved 924S. Anyone who drives the car will find it an utter joy to drive.
The Porsche 924S has wonderful torque from 0 to 140mph. It just keeps pulling. there are no flat spots they are an absolute joy to drive. There is never any need to over rev or strain these engines. The Porsche 924S gearbox was taken from the 310BHP Porsche 928. so in effect it is hardly working with the 150BHP of the light & nimble Porsche 924S.
Finally in my time with the car I have never revved her above 2500 RPM until it has achieved optimum oil pressure. At tickover when warm it sits at 3 BAR the same as when I purchased it from Sunita.

The Engine & Gearbox
Absolutely bullet proof. probably one of the sweetest 2. 5 Porsche engines left in existence. Uses no oil whatsover. ticks over at a steady 800rpm at any temperature & always 3 BAR pressure at idle when warm. 2. 5 when hot. As mentioned above I have NEVER driven the engine over 2500 RPM until full oil temperature has been reached. Sunita hardly drove the car above 50 MPH for the previous 20 years! The gearbox is a joy to use. it is very tight in all gears. The clutch is nice & light. Engine & gearbox have no issues whatsoever & nor should they given the history of the car.
Underneath
Incredibly solid underneath. no rot. fully galvanised & kept as salt free as possible. Should last at at least another 26 years! The Stainless steel exhaust will probably last that long too.
Exterior & Paintwork
The paintwork is stunning in black. when polished it shines like a mirror. As the car is utterly original. there are obviously age related stone chips. there is a little corrosion to the lower valance (I believe this is very typical & that the valance is not galvanised on these) & asides from a few little blemishes the paintwork is excellent. The sills are original & a little tatty. they will probably need some repair or replacement within the next 2 or 3 years according to my mechanic. They did not have an advisory on the MOT though but & I did think about having them done this year but I was told this was premature. All in all the exterior is stunning condition for age having lived most of it's life indoors.
Interior
Is there a Porsche 924S with a perfect unsplit dashboard? Well apart from the faintest little signs of age. this dashboard is perfect. The beige seats. carpets & boot lining are very clean. There is & has never been any damp in the car. The door cards are also immaculate. The sunroof works seamlessly. as do all interior electrics. Including passsenger side window. it winds as fast as the drivers side.
Handling Brakes & Suspension
Beyond perfect. & at a cost of over £3000 of parts. maintenance & setup over the previous 2 years so they should be!!
In Conclusion
It has actually been very difficult to write this advert. as I never thought I would part with this car. A big part of me hopes it doesn't sell & I am forced to mortgage a larger part of my future to the bank. At least I will have a beautiful car left on my new drive! But if it does sell. I would suggest the best buyer would be somebody who doesn't want a concours car to take to shows. & not a car collector. If you want a car for a museum the Volvo I am having to sell would be perfect for that. The investments put into this car were all to make it a wonderful driving experience. a car that would take you in style anywhere in the world without having to rely on a breakdown recovery service. That is what I bought. a car with a phenomenal history. where I knew exactly where it had been. who had driven it. who had worked on it & exactly what it was I was buying.
Finally unless impelled to auction the car next month. I'm afraid I will not take a penny less than the advertised price; I know if I have to try to find one again like this 924's I would be wasting my time for any sum of money.
The car is taxed. insured & Mot'd. I am based just south of Cambridge; any inspections. test drives very welcome.  I have sold many high priced items on ebay & like to be straightforward as I can possibly be in any transaction. as you will hopefully see from my feedback.
