1984 Jeep CJ7 Renegade

Please read the entire description- I put allot of effort into this description-If you still have questions feel free to ask.

Originally purchased in Knoxville. TN and the original owner kept until 2010. Original owners' son took possession of it when his father passed. The son had intentions of restoring the Jeep to its' former glory but never got around to it. I purchased it from the son who lives in Greenbrier. TN. Jeep was all original with the only modification being a 1980's era cassette player. Original mileage is 99293 (these Jeeps do have 6 digit odometers). I've been restoring CJ Jeeps as a hobby for over 20 years and this was a great candidate to restore. The frame is solid and the exterior body was in very good shape. The floor pans were showing some rust and all rusted areas were cut out and new floor pans sections were installed. I did not use spare scrap metal. I purchased new floor pan sections and had them installed. The floor pan supports were absolutely spotless w/o any rust. Jeep is optioned nicely with 20 gallon fuel tank. hardtop and doors. intermittent wipers. dual tilt forward seats. power steering and air conditioning. I located part of the original build sheet under the rear seat but it is barely legible. but it was still there. The original owners' son told me he didn't think the hardtop had ever been off the Jeep and it still had the seal under the top when I removed it along with the rubber bumper/ hardtop support on top of the roll bar. I'll list all I've done to the Jeep since I've owned it and if you have any questions feel free to contact me. I have pictures of the Jeep from when I purchased it and pictures throughout the restoration process. CJ Jeeps are not known for their highway manners but this Jeep drives really well for a CJ. Motor runs good and smooth also. Carfax report is clean with no accidents.

EXTERIOR-

Originally silver- Stripped and partially disassembled for repaint. All original body panels are intact except for the floor pan sections that were rusted. They were cut out and new pan sections installed. Painted GM Torch Red with Dupont Urethane paint with clear coat. After paint the entire body was wet sanded and buffed. No trace of original silver paint. All areas including engine compartment were repainted to match the new color.

New parts installed-

New stainless hood kit (hinges. hood latches. cowl vent)

New 4 piece fender flares (OE style)

New 54 inch Stainless front bumper

New Stainless Mirror Kit (OE style)

New radio antenna

New cowl rubber

New taillights

New Jeep logo spare tire cover

New Jeep decals

All exterior parts such as fuel filler insert. door handles. spare tire stop. spare tire rack. rocker panel trim etc. were all refinished to look like new. Hardtop was refinished in the correct semi-gloss black.

INTERIOR-

Original black denim seats and carpet are in very good condition. Driver seat had some minor wear and I was able to find some original material and have that seat repaired. All seats sit and look great. Original door panels. dashpad and sunvisors in very good condition. Interior dash lamps and courtesy lights all work. even the one in the hardtop.

New glovebox liner

New Dash Indicator Lamps

New Heat / Vent cable

New AM/FM stereo with USB. MP3 and Aux. ports w/remote

New in dash stereo speakers

New steering wheel (OE style)

New shift knobs with inserts (transmission and transfer case)

New driver side front seat belt- Passenger side and rear seat have original belts.

DRIVETRAIN-

258ci 6 Cylinder motor runs good and T-176 four speed transmission shifts smooth. When I purchased the Jeep I assumed it had the original motor but as I started detailing the engine compartment I noticed a Remanufactured tag on the motor. So at some point the motor was replaced. I can only assume the clutch was replaced at the same time but I do not have receipts for this as it was done by the original owner. 4wd engages fine and 4wd indicator light in dash cluster still works. Allot of time spent detailing the motor and chassis. Jeep also drives good and straight.

New/ Reman. steering gear box

New/ Reman. Power steering pump

New front brakes (calipers. lines and pads)

New/ Reman. Brake Master Cylinder

New hardware and emergency brake cables on rear (shoes looked like new)

New Aluminized Exhaust including muffler. catalytic converter and dual tailpipes. that exit out the rear of the Jeep.

OTHER-

I have a pile of receipts for parts purchased within the last 2 months for this Jeep. As I said earlier I've been restoring Jeeps for over 20 years and they are getting very hard to come by. I'm not beyond taking one off the frame for a restoration but I try to be picky and look for one in good enough condition that I do not have to do a frame off therefore keeping the investment/selling price within reason. This Jeep was a great find being as original as it was. From my years of restoring these I continue to go further into detail each time. As you can see by the pictures the chassis and engine compartment are highly detailed and as clean as the interior and exterior. I also own a 2004 Jeep TJ and enjoy driving it but there is no comparison to the attention a slick and detailed CJ gets. CJ Jeeps are legendary and even collectable now. NADA shows High Retail Value as $10800. My reserve is well below that. On a side note NADA Guides shows a 10 percent deduct in value for the 6 cylinder engine when that was the largest engine available in a 1984 CJ. The V8 motor. for CJs ended in 1983. Reserve price is NOT a buy it now price. It is merely the bare minimum I'm willing to let it go for. I'm hoping bids go well over the reserve in order to recoup as much of my investment as possible.

KNOWN ISSUES-

Horn does not work. plastic retainer and spring missing under horn button. Air Conditioning is not cold. Fan works. compressor still has belt on it and you can hear the compressor turn on but not cold. Would have to be converted to newer 134 Freon and unsure what else it would need. I've invested enough in the Jeep without pouring more money into a 29 year old AC unit. Small rock chip in windshield. Vent window in driver side hard door is frozen and will not pivot. Fuel gauge comes and goes. Sometimes it works fine and sometimes it doesn't. If you are fluent with CJ Jeeps you know this is a common issue. Will leave a small dip of oil on the ground every now and then. Seems the more I drive it the better it does. Seals are tightening back up from being driven. Once again if you are fluent with CJ Jeeps you know this is a common issue.
