Current customer rating:
1936 Rolls Royce 25/30 Hooper Limousine
Chassis number: GXM 67
Registration number: ESL 682
Am imposing D back limousine by the King of Coachbuilders. Messers Hooper & Co.
This car has been in long term ownership & has during that time been maintained by specialists without to expense. To that end the brakes have been relined. clutch changed. new Cylinder head fitted. Dynamo & starters over hauled etc etc etc all in the last few thousand miles. The steering box which had gone dry was stripped by marque specialists Fiennes engineering & rebuilt to factory spec.
The exterior is pale primrose yellow over black. the paint being in very good order. All bright-work is likewise very fine. Ace wheel discs are fitted to the four wheels plus spare. Twin trumpet horns adorn the front along with a central spot light. The body is absolutely solid with not a hint of rot & no dropping of the doors whatsoever they open & close like train carriage doors. An assortment of small tools are to be found under the passenger seat in the slide out tool drawer.
The servants quarters up front are upholstered in deep brown leather I would hazard a guess that it has been at some stage replaced. but long enough ago to build up a pleasant patina. The matching door cars are original Hooper items.
The rear is finished in a hard wearing staple type cloth which is in first rate condition & comfortable to sit in. The twin fold out occasional seats are in the same material but with leather piping & corner protectors to ensure durability. Wood work is of highly figured walnut in good original condition. The division is working & of the sliding variety.
A potted history comes with the car showing it to be supplied new to one J. Greig Wood of 41 Southwark Bridge Rd SE 1. In later years it spent time in America before returning to these shores in 1988. Since its return it has been running 500 or so miles a year on high days & holidays & doing occasional weddings. It started to rain the morning we photographed it. much to the horror or the owner who informed us it had not seen rain in over a decade.
On the road the car drives beautifully. The steering is precise & play free. The ride is supple & quiet a result of the one shot lubrication system being in place & working properly. The engine starts instantly & runs in silence with no untoward noises at all. Overall the car is in very fine condition & for sure is way above average. Once serviced the car will need nothing more then a new enthusiastic owner to get in & drive her. An abbreviated Rolls Royce manual comes with the car. Oil pressure is excellent & the car runs cool at 70 or so degrees with no overheating tendencies.
