Desirable fastback, chrome bumper, all-synchro gearbox for sale
Current customer rating: (238 votes ) based on1968 MGB/GT British Racing Green
The ideal MGB in today's market is a pre-rubber bumper car with twin carburetors. chrome grille. in a GT configuration. (GT means hatchback in MG parlance. and this practical. but sporty model was designed from the original MGB convertible by Ferrari master. Pininfarina. No wonder it is such a successful variant. )
Why chrome bumpers? Because not only does the car look as it was originally designed (read: much better); that was before federal regulations emasculated the car. removing the attractive chrome bumpers and grille. replacing them with ugly rubber ones while taking away one carb (and performance) in the process. Plus. in 1968. this car's birth date. was when MG added 4-speed synchros to the gearbox (much more drivable) and crash protection in the form of a padded dash and collapsible steering column.
There's also an ideal color in your mind's eye for an MGB and that is British Racing Green. Not the Kelly Green variant. but the deep. rich BRG you normally associate with Bentleys. Morgans and the like.
That's what this car is. A rust-free example that received at $24+k ground-up. bare metal restoration (fully documented) several years ago and was expertly cared for and pampered ever since. The floors are original (!). which tells you that this was never the subject of serious rust issues. The paint is beautiful. as is the chrome. The interior is also beautiful. with no tears. rips. cracks. etc. And it is in real leather; newer cars all came through with vinyl.
This was the personal car of an expert mechanic who owns his only facility and services classic and sports cars routinely. (I take him all my work. ) The car runs and drives perfectly. and everything works down to the back-up lights. That means all gauges. lights. switches. directionals. etc. The engine is detailed; the undercarriage is clean and rust-free… in reality. there is nothing to do to this car; it's what's called “turn key”.
If you're looking for a practical sports car (you'd be surprised how much you can carry in the rear cargo space); with room for an occasional guest (there are four seats without spoiling the lines); that gets great mileage and is simple and easy to maintain; and is a car you won't seeing coming and going. the MGB/GT is a great choice. No wonder they are so rapidly increasing in value.
