Current customer rating: (244 votes ) based onOFFERED IN COMPLETELY UNRESTORED. ORIGINAL CONDITION! ONLY 8. 54 MILES DRIVEN SINCE NEW! A TIME CAPSULE EXAMPLE WITH A FASCINATING HISTORY! RATHER AMAZING!
Dodge Brothers began building its first commercial trucks in 1918 in a variety of configurations. We are excited to have this 1921 Dodge Brothers half-ton roadster pickup recently discovered in April 2013 in the basement of an old Dodge Brothers dealership in New Jersey! It was carefully removed from the basement covered in dust. with one flat tire needing replacement to roll on its own. Witnesses indicated the basement was a perfect tomb for the truck by being located near the furnace that kept it warm in the colder months. and nice & cool in the summers. The all original. physical condition of this truck proves they were absolutely right! It remains a true. honest survivor now pushing 93 years old! Plenty of pictures were taken to document the resurrection that will be provided with the sale of this truck. It was put into operable condition once again and driven only for short runs recently.
The story behind this pickup is simply incredible and one you will be anxious to share with anyone lucky enough to see it firsthand! Fitted on a chassis measuring a 114” wheelbase. this little truck was sold new from Peapack-Gladstone. New Jersey in early 1921. but it was never actually delivered to the original owners for reasons unknown. It was stored for 21 years with the original SOLD sticker affixed to the windshield! When World War II began. the truck was lent by the dealership to service as a New Jersey coal truck. The coal was necessary to power equipment needed to support wartime efforts. A mere 8. 54 miles were added to the odometer during that honorable service. It was then returned to the basement proudly wearing the New Jersey Licensed Coal Truck #3420- Dept. of Weights & Measures license tag affixed to the driver's side bed rail! Additionally. the windshield retains the 1942 State of New Jersey Department of Motor Vehicles registration sticker! Again. it stayed sheltered in the basement for the next 70 years!
Today. the pickup remains in as-found condition with exception of being thoroughly cleaned and polished. With the layers of dust now removed. the paint was found to be very well preserved and able to shine rather well! The original interior seat leather also remains remarkably well presented with only slight visible wear. Options include original 212ci Inline 4 cylinder engine. 3-speed manual transmission. wood spoke wheels. original wood steering wheel. wood-lined cargo bed. accessory rearview mirror mounted to the windscreen. trumpet horn with door-mounted button. non-slip foot pedals. original dash instrumentation. and Dodge Brother headlight lenses! Remarkably. the original cloth-wrapped tool kit is included along with the original CLUM ignition keys reading DB80 with patent date of 8-15-1916! The casting date of the engine reads 2-17-20. heading casting date of 8-25-20. and unit stamp of 671175. The factory Dodge Brothers identification tag remains affixed to the interior firewall reading vehicle number 619122. Already a very rare truck to discover in any condition. but a true. bonafide survivor example such as this is amazing! It should make for a splendid investment for any collection. Please feel welcome to schedule a chance to review the pickup in person. or call with additional questions. We look forward to earning your business!
