SELLER REMARKS
Hard to know where to begin with this awesome 1955 Chevrolet 210 2-door sedan. The build started when the owner won a brand-new race-grade Butler Racing crankshaft. but where to put it? How about a 400-inch Pontiac Ram Air III topped with dual quads? Yes. in a strange turn of events. this Chevy is powered by Pontiac. Even better. it's dressed like a show car. but hammers some pretty serious hardware on the track. where it runs even better than it looks.
The paint is only about a year old and the car has only been out a dozen times since it was completed. They didn't do anything radical when they built this shell to house that brutal powerplant. instead focusing on keeping it clean and low-key. Straight sheetmetal. cool hood louvers borrowed from a Corvair. and great finish work make this car stand out without being over-the-top. Besides. the real treat is when you open the hood. but the stock look is a great hook. Bright red with a black roof looks period-correct. although Chevy never offered them that way in 1955. and you'll note that there's a Pontiac chevron on the nose in place of the usual Chevy emblems. 1-piece California-style bumpers and all the stainless trim were freshened with the rest of the car. so it really is pretty as well as insanely fast.
The interior got a full custom makeover and the mixed DNA is present here. as well. The low-back buckets were upholstered to match the bodywork and were actually lifted from a Honda Civic. although you'd never know it by looking at them. The steering wheel again has Pontiac emblems in the center. and while the original Chevy instruments are still in place. they're obscured by a monster tach on the steering column and joined by a set of auxiliary dials underneath. There is no radio because this sucker really was built for combat. but there is a trick Pontiac dual-gate "his-and-hers" shifter that should delight Poncho fans. Open the trunk and you'll find that it does mean business with a battery mounted down low in the spare tire well plus a cleverly disguised cool can inside a vintage ammo box.
Now about that engine. Starting with a Butler crank won at the Pontiac Nationals. the entire car was built to house it. Now cranking out more than 400 horsepower. the stout V 8 is based on a W 2 code 1968 block with the aforementioned Butler crank and a hydraulic flat-tappet cam. Up top. twin Edelbrocks make throttle response almost telepathic. and you're going to get plenty of double-takes when folks glance in there and see the Pontiac valve covers and distinctive intake manifold. Long-tube headers and a fairly tame exhaust system make it powerful yet streetable with a great sound. Power disc brakes are a welcome upgrade on a car that can move like this. and with a 3000 RPM stall torque converter. the TH 400 3-speed automatic is always on its toes. A 9-inch rear end with 31-spline Moser axles and 3. 90 gears is certainly race-grade hardware. and sitting on leaf springs without traction bars means that the car remains eminently streetable. With staggered tires. including traditional 26 x 7. 5-15 skinnies up front and Torque Thrust wheels. it definitely has an old-school drag race vibe. too.
Beautifully built and insanely clever. this potent Chevrolet with a Pontiac heart is a great choice for the guy who thought he'd seen it all. Call today!
