1976 Fiat 124 Spider

68. 21 miles

Medium Blue Metallic with Black Interior

An excellent example up for auction - This Fiat is very nice and ready for its new home.

The Short Version

Most of the car is new or rebuilt. Several hundred labor hours and many thousands of dollars were spent getting this car into its current condition. This car was completely gone through. but mostly returned to stock mechanically with some custom cosmetic features.

New paint. new Libre wheels with Hankook tires. new Pioneer stereo system. new cooling system. new ignition system. new brake system. new steering system. new suspension with progressive rate lowering springs. new interior. new top. 95 amp alternator upgrade. and a whole lot more!

Nearly new inside and out – top to bottom. Every part has been replaced or reconditioned. There are only 3 test miles on it right now. That number will go up this week.

It is a beautiful car in excellent condition that should serve the next owner well.

The Long Version

The details of the restoration are as follows:

Body

Paint and Metal Work

The body was stripped to a bare shell. The interior of the shell received epoxy primer and two coats of gloss black single stage urethane. This makes it look very nice under the carpet and should help prevent any future rust.

The exterior of the car received a few modifications. The large factory bumpers were removed and the associated holes were filled with steel. The lower quarter panels were welded in place at the seams. The car did get new steel rocker panels on both sides.

The exterior. engine compartment. and trunk received 3 coats of primer. 3 coats of Medium Blue Metallic urethane. and 3 coats of clear. The bumperettes and chin spoiler were added.

The under body of the car was painted with a flat black and then received two medium coats of undercoating to prevent any future rust and help with sound deadening.

Exterior Components

Convertible Top

The convertible top is new. When the top was replaced the top frame was cleaned and painted with gloss black single stage urethane paint. The new top was installed and has only been put down a few times since installation.

Chrome and Emblems

The car has new “Fiat” hood and trunk emblems with new gaskets. new Pininfarina side emblems with new gaskets. The chrome is all original to the car. The outside rearview mirror (driver's side) is brand new.

Lights

The lights all function as they should with new bulbs – including the headlights. marker lights. tail lights. back up lights. license plate lights. and even the trunk light. The headlights have a built in LED marker/turn signal. but use a conventional headlight bulb. These custom lights were wired in with an inline fuse and a relay so that they could function as both a marker light and turn signal.

Weather Strip

All weather strip is new – engine compartment (front. both sides. rear and hood pads). both doors (including door glass seals and quarter glass seals). and trunk.

Mechanical

All components. parts. pieces. nuts and bolts that were not replaced have been cleaned. primed. and painted with high heat enamel. All of it.

Electrical

New 95 Amp Alternator upgrade! This ensures that the car has brighter lights. faster wipers. beater fan function. and a better sounding radio.

The entire electrical system was removed from the car and cleaned and inspected. Any and all damaged wires were replaced. All grounds have been cleaned and the car is free from the common electrical problems that can occur with these cars. All lights work as they should. All electrical components work as they should.

Other items worth mentioning

The car also has a new FIAMM air horn kit installed. There is also a new windshield washer pump. spray nozzles. and wipers installed.

There is also a magnetic front plate holder that I will include with the car (this satisfies the law. but quickly removes so it won't ugly up the car when on display at car shows and such).

Interior

Dashboard

The Fiat has a new custom “Daytona” style dash. All lights and gauges work as they should - including the fiber optic lights at the heat controls in the center console.

Seats

A previous owner had new leather installed on the seats. They look great and are very comfortable.

Carpet

There is new carpeting with the appropriate factory jute padding installed.

There are brand new leather door panels - with new chrome strips and plugs in the armrests. The door panels also have new window side felt strips. Also new chrome strips on the map pockets in the kick panels.

Stereo System

The car also has a brand new Pioneer stereo system installed with a brand new antenna. The stereo is a very nice unit. It is HD Radio capable. CD/MP3 player. USB port. Aux port. and Apps to make it compatible with your iPhone or Android phone. Built in audio controls. color changing display and buttons. removable face plate. and even has a remote control. Owner's manual included.

The 6x8 Pioneer speakers in the rear are hidden behind the rear interior panels and are not visible. The front 5-1/4” Pioneer speakers are installed in the kick panels with the dealer installed black metal block off panels that match the grain of the kick panel (These panels cover the top of the speakers).

Trunk

There is a new trunk panel in the car and new trunk carpet added to the car. The original and complete tool kit and jack are in the trunk. There is a good spare on a factory steel wheel as well.

Other items worth mentioning

The Fiat has a brand new interior rear view mirror with day/night feature. The sunvisors are also brand new – passenger side includes the vanity mirror.

Car History

The original manuals are included with the sale. The receipts for all parts I purchased are included. There are also a number of service records from the previous owners that go along with the car. These records indicate that the car seems to have started life in Florida and made its way to southern Wisconsin around 2010. The two previous owners started restoration work on the car. but never completed it. I believe it has been off the road for about 10 years. I purchased the car last year and got it to its current condition.

Auction Details

The car is sold “as is” and “where is”. Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer. I will be happy to work with the new owner to help arrange shipping. The Fiat will stay in my garage until transport or pick up.

There's a blue Fiat spider that came up as a listing from two years ago which does not say if it's been sold or still available. Please advise.
