MECHANICAL
The original F motor has excellent compression. runs like a top. We removed the pan. inspected. new gaskets. adjusted valves. cleaned out oil passages. passed inspection with a clean bill of health. We installed a new clutch. clutch master. brake master. wheel cylinders. brake components. ball joints and boots. steering stabilizer. We re-did the suspension. New muffler and pipe. We re-wired most of the lights and components. Warn 8274 winch installed on the front. The wire cable and hook. cable controller and controller receptacle are missing. There is no oil in the winch. These winches are over $2000 new. so a worthy mild project for you to get operational. High dollar battery.
BODY
This body is in excellent condition speaking FJ40. I could not find any notable areas of rot. Of course there is surface rust spots here and there. There are scratches and chips in the paint. We cut and buffed. then sealed the paint to prevent rust from starting. We undercoated the suspension with POR-15 to prevent rust from starting. This is a must if you live anywhere salt touches the road. 31 in mud tires with 90% tread on factory wheels and caps. The seats are original. in decent shape. but not perfect. New door seals. all doors open and shut nicely. The fenders are un-cut. getting hard to find un-cut Cruisers these days. Aftermarket head liner installed years ago. sagging in spots. we tried gluing it back. too old to hold well.
Finding stock un-molested FJ40's in decent shape is getting very hard. Since FJ40's have been ringing the bell at auctions the competition to find good units has gone up dramatically in the past couple years. Barn finds in rural towns are about it these days. I've bought so many in the NW. people pass on my name as a real buyer and I end up getting 1st look often.
Overall. this is a great driver quality FJ40 that anyone would be proud to own. This is a no-reserve auction. but I anticipate this will sell in a range most people can afford. I want to be clear. if you are looking for a mint nut and bolt restoration to museum quality. I have those. but this is not it. Look at the entire picture album to determine condition for yourself. As a licensed vintage car appraiser. I've learned everyone's expectations are different.
Buying barn finds from the family of the deceased owner usually comes with title issues. I went through the process of retrieving the title. I found 1 digit was off from the title to the VIN tag (common on all vintage vehicles). I had it inspected and have the title paperwork all correct and clean. The frame/vin tag/title all match. I will have the title in physical form back from the state any day now in my name. My point is. those are headaches you may have to deal with when buying from someone that does not do this for a living. I can't tell you how many times I get customers bringing in vehicles with mis-matched numbers and titles. Avoid the countless calls to the state. hauling it on a trailer to an inspection office etc. We spent 2-3 months going through this truck to make it a nice driver. while we don't have a crystal ball. I feel confident in sending this vehicle out problem free. Tinkering is a part of vintage vehicle ownership. please expect that.
I welcome 3rd party inspections during the auction at my shop under my supervision. Skip Auto Appraisals & Pre-Buy Inspections. I own that business. I require a $1000 non-refundable deposit immediately after auction conclusion (No Exceptions) the remainder within 5 days closed auction. I send you the title and BOS priority mail after cleared funds. Cash in person or bank wire to my business preferred. As I mentioned above. I will have the physical title any day. I will update this add when received. Ebayers with less than 10 feedback need to email me your phone # before bidding or be cancelled. Bidding on this auction is no joke. this is a binding agreement. I will go to extreme lengths to collect. so if you are not serious please do not bid. Ask your wife. pastor. buddy at the donut shop. spiritual advisor. dog or whoever wears the pants in your family if it's OK to buy before you bidJ I know I'm redundant. but selling vehicles on eBay for years. I've heard it all. I have a shipping broker who has shipped dozens of FJ40's for me all over the lower 48. I will pass his info to you or work with your broker. Title and vehicle do not leave my property until cleared payment in full.
This is the 1st time this vehicle has been offered for sale on the open market since the 70's.
I'm glad to answer questions via email or phone. thanks and happy bidding.
