This Ford Escort RS 1600 was built in the Ford AVO unit at Hailwood which was Fords' Advanced Vehicle Operation unit during the 1970 s. With a Type 49 body shell it is possibly one of the best examples I have seen.

The car is powered by a full BDA engine built by AGRA Precision Engineering of Dundee who are considered to be the best builder of competition engines in Scotland. It has been dyno tested producing 180 bhp and torque of 180 lb-ft at 8000 rpm. The car has a dry sump with a 9 litre tank and BD 3 Cams. Lumenition and twin DCO 45 Carburetors.

The gearbox is a 4 Speed helical cut. built by BGH Geartech. Ratios are:-

- 1 st 3. 1

2 nd 1. 97

3 rd 1. 36

- 4 th 1. 0

Complete with needle roller thrust bearing to lay shaft and improved lubrication (grooves in gears to improve oil flow to main shaft)

Selectors are modified (double pinned) and complete with aluminium gearbox protection plate. Final Drive is a ‘Baby Atlas' Axle with LSD.

The Brakes are Willwood four piston calipers fitted with a brake balance adjuster & TAS Hydraulic handbrake.

Rear Springs are 120 lb

Rear Dampers are Bilstein

This is a truly outstanding RS 1600 from 1970 – For sale with a detailed history file fully reflecting the extensive preparation for the car which is presented in superb condition. MOTs dating back to 1971 are evident along with invoices. set up notes. and specification history all in chronological order.

Paintwork is excellent and the interior of the car carries a lovely patina complete with a period correct Halda.

This is a. very quick superbly prepared Ford RS 1600 ideally suited to many genres of historic Motorsport and undoubtedly highly competitive in the right hands. The car can be sold with a fresh MOT and 12 months tax. A comprehensive spares package is also available by separate negotiation.
