A glorious little retro Italian racer has arrived here at TFC. And what a great little car it is.
Prepared for competition from a 1970 1300 GT Junior with AR 501 paint and 1300 GTA livery it really looks like it's going 100 mph just standing still.
Original Italian registration documents from 1970 accompany the car stating just 4 owners from new. There is even original service stamps in there too.
FIA Historic Identity Forms and a CSAI Technical Passport have allowed this car to compete all around Europe.
This Alfa racer has competed in numerous events over the years including the Monte-Carlo Rally and Alfa Revival Cup attesting to it's good level of preparation.
The engine has been prepared by Ganzinelli. a famous Alfa Romeo race engine builder based in Milan. Not a lot happens until around 4000 rpm but then the racing camshafts kick in and off she goes hurtling towards the redline.
With twin Dellorto 40 DHLA carburetors. power is estimated at 114 hp. Not bad for a 1290 cc GT Junior as they were around 89 hp in standard guise.
Weighing in at under 900 kg it really is a little red rocket.
To allow the fitment of the wide 8 inch BWA wheels. some period GTA wings have been fitted and riveted as per the original Autodelta cars.
Inside there is zero sound deadening and is totally stripped of all creature comforts. There is a bolt in Sassa roll bar that is FIA approved. a single OMP race seat and Sabelt 4 point harness.
Under the rear hood you'll find the standard fuel tank has been prepared by Sassa to contain the Deto-Stop Explosion Prevention System. a specially designed aluminum alloy mesh designed primarily for NATO forces to fit inside military vehicles.
The 5 speed gearbox currently has a shortened final drive ratio of 10/43. It is nice and crisp with no crunches with the syncos all fine too. The clutch's biting point is also very good making the change up through the gears a joyous affair.
Overall. a jolly little race car that looks the part. sounds the part and goes like the clappers. This is no show pony.
It has been raced and rallied and is meant to be driven and enjoyed. Just the way we like them.
