It is a rare treat to be able to present a car in a condition
where one can literally choose which configuration one would like.
The obvious choices are hard or soft-top but actually there are
more options available than one would think. The more-desirable
drophead coupé or the sleek roadster look. Perhaps 'Sir' would like
a super-rare aluminium roadster; the style of the chassis and age
of the engine would certainly suit it. Or maybe a 'Special
Roadster'. the design of which is up to you.

Starting with the basics. the chassis is a 1951 unit. shot-blasted
and painted. Sitting at the front is a fully rebuilt 1951 3. 4
litre. lefthand drive engine with matching head and block. Both
engine and gearbox are fully rebuilt. the former by Chestmans. the
latter by Geoff Holman. Internally. the mechanics are standard
except the studless cam and chimney-pot carburettors as you would
except from an early XK motor. The period-style bucket seats are
finished in good quality leather and constructed by Mike Thomas
and. racing legend. Aubrey Finberg built the fuel tank. The
sparking plugs sit in Siamese wells and steel wire wheels shod with
the correct Avon Turbo-Speeds can be found at each corner. A
delicious project with all the dirty work completed…
