Blue/Black paintFull black leather Recaro heated electric memory seatsOriginal Blaupunkt "New York" radioOriginal 15" alloy wheelsFor sale is my 1985 Mercedes 190E 2. 3-16. I have owned it for 2 years and bought it because I'd always wanted one. I have a love for retro cars and having something like this ticked every box!
This is one of the best 190E 2. 3-16s I found when looking around for one. not modified/chavved up. in the best colour. with the best interior. I've never been a fan of the Smoke Silver colour or the chequered fabric interior.
I have used the car as a summer car. I have taken it to Germany twice and has always had whatever it needed in my ownership. When I bought it. there was a problem with the fuelling (metering head) which I replaced with a good used one. and over winter it developed a fault with the EZL (ignition) unit. which has also been replaced with a good used one.
The car has just completed a trip to Germany where is was used by XCAR to film a documentary about Ayrton Senna. see the video at http://www. youtube. com/watch?v=UAYxWowv8Iw
The car is in good condition. there are a couple of small areas of corrosion on the C pillars and also a small scab of rust on the bonnet. I've considered respraying the car but would rather that it was sold as original as possible. It has been looked after by an ex-Mercedes technician and is in good health. It did require some welding at the back shortly after I first bought it. but this was done professionally and it has flown through the subsequent two MOTs. The current MOT isn't due until October and I have no reason to believe it wouldn't pass without issue.
From memory. since I've had it. it's had:New brake discs and pads. calipers greased etcWelding as mentionedFuel metering unitIgnition module1 major service (all filters/spark plugs)3 minor services (oil/filter etc)2 rear springs2 front shock absorbersCooling fan switchFuel pump4 new tyresDashboard repaired and flockedElectric window switchNew heater matrixNew speakers installed as the original ones had fallen apart due to ageNew batteryIssues I can think of:One of the headrest adjustment buttons is missingThe air centre air vents have aged and the plastic has cracked/some has broken offCoolant light is on. but there's plenty in itThe lap timer display is broken (as they all are)The rear door cards are frayed (as they all are) I've loved the car during my ownership. I have taken it on two "Car Club 18-30" motoring events which have been great fun. The car has been dyno tested and was making 161bhp from memory. which isn't bad for a 29 year old car. I have taken it around the Nurburgring and I also did a half-day track event at Llandow in 2012. I would call this "using the car as intended" rather than "abusing" it - it is a joy to drive on road and on track and it makes a lovely noise when using the car to the full. Despite being old and wallowy. it's actually very rewarding and fun to drive. watch the video above and you'll see what I mean! It isn't quick by today's standards of course. but it is still a great car to drive and goes pretty well. It commands attention almost everywhere it goes too.
All in all. I think the car has stood the test of time well. it's been well maintained and drives perfectly. It's even surprisingly economical. it has a 70 litre tank and after the 2013 Nurburgring trip it averaged 38mpg on the way home with 4 chaps on board and full of luggage.  Pretty impressive for a 30 year old saloon car that was really meant for racing!
The car is located in Mansfield NG18 and viewing can be arranged. No time wasters. tyre kickers. silly offers or test pilots please. No test drives will be allowed without proof of FULL insurance and money in hand. Happy to answer any questions through Ebay etc and arrange viewings if required.
These cars are getting rarer now and I'd love to keep it. but I don't have anywhere to store it long term and it just doesn't get used often enough. so it's time to move on. It's too good for it not to be properly cared for.
