Up for sale is a Vintage American Racing Special. This car was built by two guys from the Oneonta . ew York area in the mid fifties.

The starting point was a 1941 Oldsmobile. The body was removed and frame shortened 18 inches. and a small diameter tube frame was built to hold the hand formed aluminum body.

This car was raced in period at Watkins Glen and raced for numerous years at the Keene International Hillclimb in Keene. Valley New York.

Originally the car was built using the Olds Flathead six and the Olds Transmission. used for two seasons and not up to task. the motor was replaced with a Olds 394 cubic inch

Rocket V-8 sporting three Stromberg 97 carbs. and fitted with a 1963 Corvette transmission purchased new from the local Chevy Dealer. The car retains this drivetrain along with the hand fabricated exhaust system. This engine configuration made 185. 7 Hp at 4200rpm with 232. 3 ft/lbs of torque when last at the dyno in 2009.

This car has a fuel cell in the rear with an electric Holley fuel pump. it has a new Griffin Aluminum radiator. custom made duplicate of original. original included in sale.

This car is in running condition and is currently road legal and registered in Ct.

The sale will include (3) 3 ring binders of historic photos. race results . and race programs from the Keene Hillclimb.

This is a very interesting Special that was built in the mid fifties in upstate NY  and has managed to survive very intact. A rare find indeed. Built in Oneonta by Wes Foote and Nick Rizzo as a race car. Wes unfortunately passed years ago. but Nick is alive and living well in Oneonta and would be happy to speak to you about the car.

Nick was reunited with the car 5 years ago at a Keene Hillclimb Reunion. he had not seen it in appx 26 years. Nick went over the car with us and confirmed that the car was largely as he had built it. Interesting notes we made included Nicks purchase of the Steeering Wheel from a new mail order company. J C Whitney! . seats made from cut down oil drums. and a removable windshield for driving the car to the events. no trailering back then.

In June of 1964 Nick won the Hillclimb at Keene  with a run up the 1. 7 mile hill in 1minute 28 seconds making him class winner and Fastest time of the day. The next year he bettered his speed by two seconds. but coming in third place behind a Stanguellini and Jack Pavelings Ford Cobra.

The current owner reluctantly is passing this car on to its next caretaker. which we hope will be in the New York . Ct. area as it a rare piece of early racing history.
