This is a 1930 Morris Oxford coach built saloon. one of the larger cars built by the Morris Car Company.   It is also known as the ‘Flat nose Oxford. '   It has a 6 cylinder. side valve LA engine. RAC rating 15HP. 1938c. c. giving about 39 bhp.    The engine is fitted with a gear driven distributor using 12 volt coil ignition.   Fuel is fed by an SU carburettor which in turn is fed by an autovac which draws petrol from the rear mounted petrol tank.   The colour is black over a dark maroon or burgundy.  The car is old enough to be correctly described as vintage.

Transmission is through a three speed crash gear box which drives the normal crown wheel and pinion rear axle through a prop shaft. which is fully enclosed in a torque tube.

Seating is quite capacious. having driver's and front passenger single seats and a bench seat in the rear which can accommodate two or three passengers.

There is an opening sunroof and the windscreen can also be opened.   There are four doors. each having a wind up window.   The rear window has a pull up blind. mainly to avoid dazzle at night from following traffic.

The history of the car is not very detailed.   It was first owned by a senior army officer in Surrey and. after he died. it is believed to have been laid up for a number of years.   It was re-commissioned by a member of the Bullnose Morris Club who used it regularly and then passed to a gentleman in Yorkshire.   In 1997 it was sold to another person in Bristol and in November 2011 sold it to the present owner.

Recently. much work has been done. overhauling the top of the engine by removing and reconditioning the valves. grinding in the valve seats and renewing the cylinder head gasket.   The twin plate clutch. which runs in oil has been re-corked.  Numerous other tasks have been carried out and the aim has always been to keep it in its original condition as far as possible.    During the current ownership. the car has completed approximately 1000 miles

The car comes with some history. driver's handbook. workshop manual. 1930 brochure and a number of spares.   These include lights. half shaft. wheel hubs. gaskets and a number of small parts and consumables.   Also included is a rear mounted trunk. as cars at this time seldom had a boot. along with quite a nice fitted picnic hamper.   While not concourse. the vehicle is in excellent condition. much of which is thought to be original.

The car. which is known to both the Bullnose Morris Club and the Morris Register. is offered in good running order. ready for the 2014 season and beyond.   This is a private sale.
