EXCELLENT COLOR COMBINATION! EXPENSIVE CHROME WIRE WHEEL CONVERSION ALONG WITH MANY DESIRED ACCESORIES! WONDERFUL HISTORY INCLUDING A DOCUMENTED RESTORATION IN 2008! GREAT BUY! SPECIFICATIONS Year 1953 Make MG Model TD VIN 1983594108 Mileage 76. 57 Engine 1250cc Cylinders Inline 4 Transmission 4-Speed Manual Title Color Black Interior Color Red DESCRIPTION Debuting in 1950. the TC-series was replaced by a slightly larger TD-series. This new design offered both left-hand-drive and an independent front suspension for the first time. They also included smaller. more tire-friendly 15” wheels and a wheel track that was 5 inches wider promising better road handling!
This beautiful 1953 MG-TD roadster comes finished in gloss Black over Red hides with Tan canvass soft top with matching side curtains. its original. number's matching 1250cc XPAG straight 4-cylinder engine with dual SU carburetion producing a modest 57 horsepower at 5200 rpm. Features include 4-speed manual transmission. single outside mirror. Brooklands steering wheel. correct Jaeger gauges & Lucas amp meter. wind wings. electric wipers. 15” chrome 60-spoke wheel upgrade. stainless steel exhaust system. Tri-bar headlamps. Lucas front fog lamps with badge bar. vintage interior seatbelts. and a rear-mounted luggage rack!
It was in the care and ownership of the same female collector from 1965-2006. It was then sold to another Florida MG enthusiast who decided to have it delivered to his home located in Ontario Canada for a proper cosmetic restoration in 2008. At that time the odometer read just 73. 15 miles. With the help of Cobourg Automotive. it received a complete bare metal re-spray to all original panels in a base coat/clear coat fashion. No rust or wood rot required repair making this little MG very special! The red interior was left largely original. but the seat upholstery. top. and side curtains were replaced. With attention leading to the suspension. this owner opted for the rather expensive. wire wheel conversion along with new suspension bushings and tie-rod ends. To match the new chrome wheels. the bumpers. bumper over-riders. and luggage rack were also replaced for brand new. This really gives our TD a beautiful appearance with the new black paint finish! This MG then made its way back to sunny Florida where it was enjoyed for another 4 years or so before it had taken new ownership. This time. the collector was a former MG authorized dealer here in Missouri specifically looking for a 1953 model to match the year he went into business! He enjoyed it sparingly for nostalgia reasons along with his family for nearly two years before its arrival to our showroom in 2014.
Nothing else on this car has been altered from original right down to the correct generator positive ground charging system. MG intake & exhaust manifolds. canister oil filter. horn. and air cleaner assembly. Only the polished valve cover and side lifter cover were added for a bit of under hood appeal. and an electric cooling fan installed for those hot Florida summers. All body and engine tags are clearly present and unaltered making this example a genuine driver investment! More recently. the St. Louis Car Museum elected to go ahead and replace the entire interior panels including fresh door cards. rear storage compartment. and edge beading. The originals were beginning to fade and show more wear than we preferred. so it is far better representative of the splendid exterior in our opinion. Today. the odometer now reads only 76. 58 miles. which we believe to be original. It will come with an operator's manual. two sets of keys. and tire changing tools. It's ready to be driven immediately! Please feel free to call with any questions. We look forward to working with you!
