1929 Cord L-29 Brougham. Front Wheel drive. Straight 8. with excellent original interior and a good. older restoration. Runs nicely. a good. solid. original car that has been well preserved over the decades. Enjoyable now as it is!

The 1929 Cord L-29. A car that MUST be seen in profile. A car that was so stylish. and so low to the ground. that it must have seemed impossible when it was introduced in 1929. It was made possible by the pioneering use of front wheel drive. which allowed the occupants to sit behind the drive mechanism instead of OVER it.

Beautiful bow tie bumpers. and fenders that show off the front drive mechanism - the half shafts and springs are on full display.

The prettiest of all sedan designs. the brougham with blind rear quarter panel - looks spectacular.

What a great looking car!

Much of the chrome plating has been redone and is in good shape.

.

Pretty Metal Trunk. Note the tail lamps that match the headlamps. there are 2 tail lamps. 1 for each side.

Nice wire wheels with good chrome lockrings and center-removable hubs. The Bedford Cord tires look like they're in good shape. but they are certainly quite old.

Revolutionary for 1929 - front drive. half-shafts. constant velocity joints. bumpers mounted to the front axle. and dual half-springs mounted to the frame to keep it from being a low-rider!

Here's the right side. Not show detailed. but serviceable and functional.

The Sparton Horn. hidden behind the sidemount.

The stock Lycoming straight 8 engine. It runs nicely. and smoothly. hitting on all 8.

The interior fabric is original and astonishingly good!

Excellent steering wheel in the original finish. The scalloped knob surrounding the horn button is actually the headlight switch.

The center knob is the shift lever. It's a 3 speed manual.

Another view of the dash. Although the shift lever looks different. it operates very similar to a usual H-pattern shift transmission.

Even the intstrument and map lights work.

Straight 8 Lycoming engine . Note the 2 rollers mounted atop the cylinder head - they guide the shift lever past the engine and on to the transmission.

Not detailed but in good running order !

Here's the driver's side. with a good view of the transmission and water pump.

Special transmission lubricant is used for the demands of the front wheel drive system!

Note the Wagner Hydraulic brake fluid reservoir. Pretty advanced for 1929. when most cars still had mechanical brakes. That coil is a spare. it actually runs on the coil behind the dash.

The padded top has some age and water spotting. Fortunately that didn't make it to the interior!

.

The doors fit well but I noticed a little bit of "give" or sag when opened. Not a lot. but a little.

.

The paint is older. and although it's shiny. it has some blemishes. chips and scratches as shown by this example on the left front fender.

Here's the right side. Note the sidemount locks are missing.

These cars are just astonishingly good looking.
