Best of 'EVERY YEAR' X1/9 Project This auction is for one 1974 Fiat X1/9 (clean title and currently registered as planned non-op so everything is up to date).   Best of all (for California. etc. ) is that this is a '74 car so there's no smog test. no problems with engine modifications. no problem having a turbo charger stick out of the roof. etc.
The most recent photos (taken yesterday. February 15th. 2014) are uploaded here to eBay. The body is from a near perfect '84 Bertone.   The interior & dash (with the round buttons) are from an '88. I include a ton of parts so that you can customize to build the exact X1/9 of your dreams -- it's stripped and all ready to paint to your taste. The motor/drive train is also from the '84 and it had approximately 40k miles on it.   The car runs and started immediately after not having run for 2+ years without a drop of smoke.   The AC is all plummed and working although it hasn't been charged in the time that I've had it so I would probably recharge that in order to make it colder. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Let me start by saying that I hate doing this!  I bought my first X1/9 when I was 16 and have had countless (maybe 20) Italian cars since. The X1/9 was and is my most favorite car ever but I don't currently live in the US and can't justify the expense of storing this project when I could just rebuy everything yearly for what I spend in storage.

THIS IS THE HISTORY SECTION ABOUT THIS PROJECT -- NOT ALL OF THE CARS PICTURED HERE ARE INCLUDED WITH THIS AUCTION.   If you are unclear then ask me.

I have been collecting these X1/9s and parts to build my dream X1/9 for about 8 years. (See cars in the background. )  By the way - The Fastest X1/9 in the USA is also for sale -- see http://www. ebay. com/itm/121277441519

The combining is complete and mostly all that remains is cosmetic. You'll need to choose a color. decide to have a black or painted roof. decide to have black or painted chrome (I include both). decide on black or silver bumpers (I include both). decide on black or red carpets (I include both). decide on if you want square or round buttons in the dash (84 or 88). decide on if you want the 84 or 88 wiring harness and fuse types. choose the wheels that you want to use. etc.

Here is the car. on the trailer (trailer not included). all ready to paint…

To me the ultimate street X1/9 would have:

Decent power w/ no Gestapo smog rules / requirement. If I decided that I needed to have a turbo charger sticking out the roof then I want to be able to do it. So. it's got to be a '75 or older in Kalifornia. Power Windows Working AC 5 speed transmission Modern [square] bumpers so that I stay alive if someone doesn't see my little cute thing on the 405 Comfortable Sparco seats with all the adjustments [NOTE: this is the one thing that I didn't buy yet] Round buttons from the late model '86 through '88 dash A cool radio which plays DVDs on an oversized screen (audio data and video) Cool looking aftermarket wheels with the largest tires that I can fit under the stock fenders Cool single color and paint job is comparable to that of what you'd find in a Ferrari – I was actually thinking of the Tour De France Blue. the Ferrari color. Everything working on a frame/body that has ABSOLUTELY NO RUST because I didn't want to start spending this kind of time and money on something that is going to fall apart.

I've got all the parts. In fact. I've got 2 or 3 of everything (see more details below).

I stripped everything for painting. put this X1/9 on the trailer and took it (my dream for the ultimate street X1/9) to the painter - 3 painters actually. After talking to them about their time schedules I came to the conclusion that I will kill myself and still not complete this project before I've got to leave again. Furthermore. the reality hit me that I've been paying $1k per month for 4 years to store stuff that is worth far less than $50k I've already spent. I just can't pay another $12k (for a year) to store a car that's arguably worth $10k on eBay AFTER a $1500 paint job and lot of time.

SO. I post here and can hopefully I can find the right home for this project. Here are the cars that made up the components of this collection and a little history.

#1. '88 Bertone X1/9 – what was left after stripping the carcass of this car went to the crusher and the VIN/registration has been retired as salvage

I bought an '88 that I bought sight unseen and shipped from Florida for $1500 + $900 shipping which turned out to be a rust bucket.

I guess you get spoiled living in SoCal.

#2. '84 Bertone X1/9 – the majority of the body. the bumpers. the doors. interior and drivetrain of this car forms the basis for the ‘Best of EVERY YEAR X1/9' and this VIN/registration has also been retired as salvage

I found a perfect and running '84 out in the California desert which didn't drop of rust on it – impossible find.

This is the most perfect body that I've seen (structurally and rust wise) pretty much since you could buy them new from a showroom in the 80's.

#3. '74 Fiat X1/9 – all the rusty parts / drivetrain have been thrown away and the car has been rebuilt with the parts of the newer cars while the '74 registration serves as the basis for the ‘Best of EVERY YEAR X1/9'

I picked up a '74 Fiat X1/9 for free that Rudy saw in someone's yard – ended up having to pay $850 to get the registration cleared and that car was also too far for saving for me although I've seen people start with less.

I do literally have 2 or 3 of everything.

Tops to paint or not paint or have both:

Spare black carpet if you don't want faded red one which is installed but needs to be restained (yes. I have the Bertone floor mats too):

Lots of wheel choices! ('84. Bogart or something else which I forget the name of)…

My pick is these Bogart ones which I've already mounted brand new tires on.

I have all the different bumpers and grill options – Bertone or early Fiat. black or silver or '74 bumpers. etc.

I have lots of steering wheels (although I'd put one a nice Sparco one like I did in my race car):

The rubbers aren't bad but I've got a brand new rubber molding set. still in the Bayless box:

I have the COMPLETE wiring harness from the '88:

I have all the wheel liners. a good set of the bottom engine covers. multiples of almost everything you can think of…

I have a few radios including this one which pays DVDs (data audio or DVD) and have multiple dashes. one cut to perfectly fit this big screen radio:

If you want to run a header and no cats then you can:

Someone could probably have a complete car for free once you build the version you want and sell the left over parts
