Hello. my name is Joe. I'd like to present to you for sale my1964 Dodge Polara A/FX Altered Hemi 4 speed project car.
It was not my intent to sell this car in this unfinished state. But. nbsp;need to raise the needed capital up to go from leasing out my truck and trailer hauling new and used cars from state to state. and place to place for others that earn incomeoff of me to keeping it all for me.  So here is the real deal on this rare find. nbsp;I hope I can interest you in.
I bought this car body in 1994 in Oklahoma. It was used for years as an old drag car. setting in a guys back yard with several other interesting finds. It was not an easy task to get him off this car. But after months of going back and forth. he agreed to sell it to me. For some years in my business of Auto Restoration and Custom Car Building going back to the early 1970's. In the 1990's. I started traveling across countless states searching and buying up Chrysler 1962 to 1970 cars. In those years. I collected several Hundred Chrysler cars. and sold from finished custom built to order turn key Muscle cars. to father and son project cars. I loved project cars the best because it brought dads and sons together and was a way to keep kids out of trouble with the law. My Dad and I spent countless hours together fixing up old cars in the garage. and the memories are forever. My stories of discoveries and buys are endless. and the Chrysler gear heads I met and got to know. many today are very close friends that know me. and my story well. I hit the spring and fall Mopar Nationals like clock work. along with countless other Chrysler swap meets selling my discoveries to buyers glad to buy hard to find quality Chrysler parts and cars. I bought what I knew had value. but more so. what I knew had high demand. Today. what I am selling is the last of what I had other then the Motor and trans. That's a different story.  But In all my years of travel and finding deals. and buying. I never came across such a package deal as I am offering. Had I. I would not have thought twice about buying it up because. I knew. I was not the only Chrysler gear head in the world.
To those that know anything about 60 Hemi Cars. and the history of the legendary A/FX Altered Wheel Base cars of the 1960's. You understand. these cars are nostalgic history. and you know the value of these cars. Your my market. For those wanting a turn key car to put next to that look a like at your local town car show. This is not for you. This car is for the guy that has the ability to work a welder. use a paint gun. an air file. etc. etc. and uses their hands and mind to create the marvel of the show. not the look a like. Your my market place. But for anyone that lacks these talents but has talents in other fields of life. and desires to own one of these nostalgic cars. I can be of a service to you. My career of Auto Restoration and Custom Car Building goes back to the 1970's. While I'm not seeking to build this turn key for you. I would complete the fabrication and the finish body work at an agreed price. But the price of the car as is buy it now is $17. 500. 00. I will consider all reasonable offers. So here is what has been done to this car to date.
Last year I started this project and transformed the stock Body into what you see. I quit working on the car in Aug. Took the car to the Fall Mopar National and the the response from the crowd was very rewarding.
The rear half of this car was first cut and moved forward 15". But when that part was finished. I removed the back half from under the car and went to work on the wheel wells by widening them 7" leaving that stock Chrysler look. I then removed the rear frame rails and moved them together. But again. wanting that stock Chrysler look. I used the stock rails. I did cut and use 2x3 tubes in the rear section behind the tires because I wanted to insure the roll cage and structure of the car would hold the force of not only the Hemi. but Wheel Standing Fun.
The trunk pan as shown was replaced. but custom fitted. My wants again was to have a stock to the eye appearance when the trunk was opened at car shows. Trunk floor pan kick downs have been completed. Trunk has very little left to fab. weld. and finish.
Front wheels were moved forward 10". I used. though I have the straight axle. the original K/Member because as the originals were build. K/Members were used. I went back and forth on what would be best. As a kid growing up in the 1960's. Straight Axle Cars always got my heart pounding. Had a couple. very fun but. when push come to shove. knowing the history of the original A/FX Alters. K/Member won. It won because I wanted a low stable street driving wheel standing car.
For front frame rails. I used 2x3 tubing that runs inside the original frame rails under the floor pans to the center of the car where the originals end. I did use the front original rails as shown so the geometric of the stock steering never changed. I have seen them built either way. full length replacement rails. or as I chose. Both done right work well.
Eng. and Trans have been set back near ten percent. In doing so. I also cut the original fire wall. As the pictures show and moved the factory fire wall back as well. Did not want aluminum nor flat stock as an easy fix all. I wanted that original stock look to stay very vivid in the eyes of the on looker. The time and effort made the project very unique.
The interior front floor pans as the pictures show have been replaced. You can see the fire wall set back. and how the trans hump tunnel was used and relocated. Steering shaft coming through fire wall shown in the picture needs to have some alterations done on the fire wall to a line the steering column to gear box. Simple task. Have all need parts to connect steering. simple to connect.
Inside the interior compartment. you can see the rear wheel well area. Plans were for enclosing the interior compartment  off from trunk with sheet metal. as well as in the areas of both side rear interior trim panel area. Rear windows in these cars are set in place and do not roll up or down. Have sheet metal for completing that part of the project.
Eng. and Trans have yet to be mocked up. But it is a easy job because the Trans Frame cross member has already been relocated. I have the Trans bolt in cross member. and mount. I Also have the aluminum elephant ears for mounting the Hemi power plant in place.
Body Sheet metal is very nice on this car. Finish body work will entail simple everyday body shop knowledge and talent. There is no major rust holes. or body work needed that a low experienced hobbyist can't handle at home in your garage.
The cowl though does have some repair rust work still needing repaired on the left side under hood corner. and some inside the car across the bottom of the cowl. But again. Nothing even a hobbyist can't handle.
Glass is all good. rear glass and rear side glass is uninstalled because of the building project.
Bumpers come with car. Plan was to modify the front bumper and run with the bumpers on the car.
Car was to go to the media blasting shop next. Never got it there. Re assembled the car for the nationals and never got back at it. Car to be done right should be media blasted top to bottom. inside and out. Was waiting for that stage to take place before finish welding and grinding took place.
This Car was original Red on Red. and is an original 4/speed big block car.
Frame and under body work is been mainly completed. Frames been tied together with 2x3 tubing. and Super Stock leaf spring hangers have been fabricated. and installed with heavier stock then counter bought at speed shops. Super Stock leaf springs have not been bought. and are not in the package.
Rear end is a 1966 B Body with posi. Good casing. not sure what gear. its been many years since bought.
4 speed is a 23 spline Chrysler trans that was rebuilt. Have bell housing and I believe fly wheel. clutch and presser plate. No shifter.
Motor is a 1966 426 Hemi and I have spec sheets on everything done to the motor.  Quickly. it is a 30 over. 13 1/2 to 1 aluminum piston and rod motor with very little usage. Block has been cut. and notched for valve relief clearance. Heads have major head work done on them with very large valves.  Cam is a solid roller cam. lots of lift and duration for ground pounding. fender shacking action.  Intake is a dual quad with Edelbrock Carbs.  Motor is missing some exterior components today. They were used on a less radical Hemi Motor. Nothing you can't find a swap meet. Eng is apart. yet as shown in pictures. is how the Eng. sits today. Pistons. Rods. and Cam are boxed up. All bearings and rings are good and have little usage on them.
The car comes with a 10 point S&W roll cage. But it is missing the bars that run from the fire wall to the front part of the frame near front tires.  Simple tubes you can buy. and have bent to fit.  Bought the cage at the Mopar Nationals last fall.
Torsion bars have yet to be installed. was undecided between using the stock bars. or bars from a C Body car. Have new rear bar box holders made. but have not welded them in place. No big deal finishingthis part of the project. The hard work is done. The stock B Body or C Body torsion bars will work very good in this car.
I would love to finish this car. but being things are what they are. I hope it goes to a good home.  I would finish the rough in work for a fee for those that feel they are not up to the challenge.  I believe this project would make a great Father and Son project that both would enjoy not only finishing together. ut driving it. and showing it off together. It is an investment that will create great memories. and finished could bring a100K.
There are two pictures I have supplied of a model car that shows the 1964 Dodge with a straight axle. and one with a K/Member. I did not build either model and take no credit. I just found the pictures on a DVD from the Funny Car Farm on building a nostalgic A/FX Altered Wheel Base Car. Love the 1964 Body look. had the right body for the project. used what I had. and you see where it stands. and how it looks today.
So if this one of a kind nostalgic A/FX Altered caught your eye as an unfinished car.  Think about how many eyes it will catch finished when your driving it on a Saturday night. and you stand it on the back bumper!
