For sale: 1963 IHC Metro Mite CM112 half-ton milk/bread/ice cream truck step van from the dry high desert.  Used very little the last 40 years. nbsp;from the radio licenses I found it was last used in service in the 70's. This truck was used for many years by the local county Civil Defense/Sheriff/Special Services for a disaster and emergency command post during the Cold War. It mostly sat waiting for use and was idle most of the time. I'm guessing that before that. nbsp;originally it was used as a military ambulance. again mostly sitting idle waiting for an emergency to respond to. Solid and functional and ready for use now with minor work. or restore and take it to the next level.  These are cool little trucks. nbsp;and this Metro is in very good condition for the year.  These are becoming very popular with rodders and make great rolling advertisement vehicles. mobile stores. food trucks. ice cream truck or mobile studios They also look cool chopped or lowered. There is room in the back to stand up and put living quarters. a harley. cooking equipment. speed parts. or? Metros are rare. especially one that runs great with no rot.  I'll do my best to describe it below:

Exterior: Pretty straight. solid and rot-free high desert rig. There is no salt used on the roads here in the land of the prickly pear cactus and sagebrush. and we only get 10 inches total moisture per year. We just don't see major rust issues here. I can't see anything at all other than a few tiny specks of minor surface rust low behind the left front wheel. about the size of a pencil eraser. nbsp;if you zoom in on driver side photo you can see them. here are a few dings here and there. nothing major. White paint put on by the county is peeling in a few spots and revealing the original military green. Some of the decals are original. some I had reproduced and replaced. There is a 6" hole in the body that's been cut under the large CD sign on the passenger side. must have been for a vent or a heater. Glass looks decent other than passenger front window has a crack at the lower corner. Grille is very good to excellent. if you see anything that looks like a flaw. it's probably just a reflection. METRO letters on front hood and METRO-MITE side badges were apparently removed at some point. Roof is in good condition with 2 vents as shown. Rubber wheel flares are cracked at the tops.

Interior: Nice clean original condition. a veritable time capsule. Looks like you're stepping back into the Cold War.  No water or rodent damage or smells.  Passenger jump seat in good condition. rear bench upholstery not torn. but has impressions from stuff sitting on it for years. Driver seat bottom torn. nbsp;needs re-covered. Some writing in marker underneath where the map is. Great clean slate start for a hot rod. or use as is for a slice of history.

Mechanical: Appears to be all original 4 cylinder drivetrain. I had a professional mechanic check this over when it was retrieved from long term storage. to the tune of $500. Fuel tank was drained. carb rebuilt. master cylinder rebuilt and complete service. Starts. runs fine. and seems to stop well even though wheel cylinders were not rebuilt. Only major issue I can see is that driveshaft was bent at one time and has been straighted. so plan on replacing that - should be about a hundred bucks to re-tube and balance. It's only been driven about 10 miles since pulling it out of storage. Tires are badly weather checked. so I only took it up to about 45mph. Tires are 15" and I think the bolt pattern is the popular 5 x 4. 5 Fomoco/Mopar/AMC so that should provide ample aftermarket wheel choices.  Haven't tested all lights and switches yet. I started it up yesterday after several weeks of cold weather. and it didn't want to start immediately. so I gave it a couple of shots of starting fluid and it fired right up. I may have not had the choke (manual cable) set properly. Motor sounds good and clutch/trans/rear end all seem fine. Not sure of mileage. could be 13k or 113k no idea. It might even be 13k with all the waiting this little truck had for emergencies that rarely happened.

Pricing/Misc: I got a good deal on this rig and you will too. I see this era Metro bringing very good money when they are clean like this one.  A 61 Metro Mite in comparable condition just sold out of Montana for over $7k right here on Ebay a few weeks ago.  This truck needs a few things. it's not perfect. and it's priced accordingly.  Reserve price is well under $4k for quick sale.  Title is clear and in my name.  GOOD LUCK!

*************Hi. thanks for all the interest! Had a few questions about the dimensions of the interior of the truck and the rear inside cargo area (from seats back) is approximately 8 feet long by 5 1/2 feet wide by just under 5 feet high. So if you removed the bench and table that's about what you'd have. ******************
