SELLER REMARKS

If there's an award for the toughest piece of off-roading hardware ever built. it has to go to the Dodge Power Wagon. Brutally simple and insanely appealing because of it. these were the original monster trucks before they became fashionable. This 1949 Power Wagon is a bit more sophisticated than most. packing a 318 cubic inch V8. an automatic transmission to make it usable on today's roads. and enough patina to earn it a place in any off-roader's stable.

There's a certain degree of cognitive dissonance when you see a restored Power Wagon. Shiny paint and those squared-off angles just don't seem to go together. which is why you want one with some age on it. That isn't to say this one isn't well-preserved and in great shape. because it is; it's just not all shiny and perfect so you won't have any fears about plunging into the brush in it. It's still tough as nails. and with a trick wood bed cover with piano hinges. it's able to secure your gear without looking modern. The original winch still lives on the bumper and it's strong enough to pull down an oak tree. and the only notable concessions to modern motoring are the LED taillights. discreetly mounted turn signals. and a rumbling V8 exhaust note from the twin pipes under the running boards. That satin-finish paint is purely intentional and looks right on the upright sheetmetal. and with the side-mounted spare. it has an industrial look that's intimidating as hell.

Interiors were as basic as they came in the Power Wagon. with little more than a bench seat. a wheel. and a few gauges to keep an eye on things. That's still pretty much how it is today. although the funky paisley cloth upholstery is a wild addition that somehow suits the big off-roader just fine. Maybe it's the contrast between the brute strength of the rest of the truck. but you'll dig it. Auxiliary gauges are mounted directly to the floor in what has to be the most back-to-basics installation ever. although someone with a sense of style finished the controls with a pistol-grip on the B&M shifter and woven leather on the transfer case and power take-off levers. No radio. no heater. but if you need those you're probably not man enough for this truck anyway.

According to the data plate on the dash. top speed of an original Power Wagon was 54 MPH. That's not particularly useful. so the six was ditched in favor of a 318 inch V8 linked to a 4-speed automatic transmission. so its cruising capabilities are vastly improved. It also includes the original transfer case and axles. so it'll head off road without missing a beat and can climb over the nastiest terrain better than an armadillo. Headers and a custom exhaust sound awesome. a Holley 4-barrel makes horsepower. and the suspension is augmented with slightly softer springs and modern shocks to make the ride tolerable for daily use. Those massive tall 11R16 XL off-road tires give it an awesome stance and those steel wheels are so beefy and oversized that it looks like it could crawl through a lava flow.

Power Wagons are red hot right now. and if you were hoping to get one cheap. well. even projects are $15. 00 these days and fully restored trucks can command big $. This one is finished and ready to rock. all for a fraction of the price of one of those glossy restored jobs. Call today!
