1954 MG TF Restoration Project.
The last owner. from San Antonio. Texas. had the car for 40 years. since 1974. Originally the car had the 1250cc XPAG engine but he upgraded to the 1500 cc unit - the XPEG 1500.
The car was last on the road in 1978 when he decided to restore it completely. very little got done!. He became ill and gave the car to his nephew. from Illinois. who also did very little.
They did buy various new parts. The original interior - black -  is with the car and could be used again. The seats are very good and all the trim is there apart from the rear wheel arch covers. but also included
is a Moss Interior Trim Kit in green (photo) with leather seat covers and vinyl trim. The doors require fitting. hinges and  fittings. door catches etc are with the car. I think 1 half of one hinge is missing.
The engine starts easily. no smoke . sounds good. ticks over well. all the gears select. clutch works. brake pedal goes straight to the floor! Two radiator hoses are missing but otherwise the engine bay looks complete. Lights are not connected but all the wiring is in place.
New battery. Tyres are good. though not the spare. Luggage rack is not bolted on.
The paintwork is the original colour and looks like it's the original paint too. They started to rub it down as can be seen. The hood is good enough to use but looks a bit grim - like old canvass. The 4 sidescreens are excellent.
All the body panels are good and straight. amazingly rust free. Can't see any rust underneath. Texas !! Hot and dry. Exhaust system is OK. (Does not need replacing). Needs carpets. Windscreen is cracked. Wheels are all good.
Chrome is OK to Good. The door catches are new. but not fitted. Air cleaners included and various other bits and pieces. Steering wheel is good. looks original but with a very well fitted leather cover.
The car is for restoration - there may be parts missing. This is a Project vehicle. It has not been on the road since 1978. Some renovation has been started and the car will need a complete check over for loosened nuts and fittings. They were planning a "body off" job!
Chassis number is HDE43/5866. original engine was XPAG 35813. engine now installed is XPEG 1988.
The car can be driven on to a trailer but no brakes! Handbrake doesn't seem to do anything either.
I have the USA Title and the UK Customs documents and will shortly have the DVLA documents to register the car in UK. All import taxes are paid. Registration is straightforward.
There is no buy it now price. The reserve is reasonable.
Buyer to make contact at auction end. no deposit required. cash on collection only or bank transfer prior to collection. No other form of payment accepted. Collection within 7 days . but with Christmas shortly if the car is paid for within 7 days it can stay in my garage for up to 2 weeks. Any overseas bidders please make contact first.
