Service Log/Vehicle History

The car comes with the original service book which details that it was first sold by Crystal of Scarborough Ford on 8th of January 1968 and shows early service stamps. Additionally as part of the history there are nearly all of the tax disks from 1968 to the mid 80's. then a couple of more recent ones. There are a number of old MOT's to back up the mileage and extensive recent service history for mechanical/maintenance which I've had done to the vehicle - see the final picture in the gallery for shot of all of the above.

Originality/Mileage

As I've gone through the car there have been many key indicators to backup the mileage and to show that its never been tampered with. As mentioned above the car has never been welded from all the inspections I've had undertaken. The strut tops are original and the vin stamp is still visible. The boot floor including both recesses is completely solid and looks untouched in terms of new metal or welding.  The drivers seat shows very little sign of wear. the rest of the interior shows even less. Its never been fitted with a stereo nor is there anything to indicate anyone has tried to or run any audio wiring. The car still has its original FoMoCo ignition key which fits all locks. As I've carried out necessary general maintenance on the vehicle nearly everything I've replaced as either FoMoCo or period Ford. examples being: ARB bushes. rotor arm. rear shocks. nbsp;oil filler cap. thermostat housing. the original dynamo(still in fitted and working order) and coil were both the original date stamped Lucus items. as is the little black electrical box. The tudor washwipe bag is still present. both the brake and clutch res caps are original. The original steel wheels which come as spares with the vehicle are date stamped OCT 67. The original FoMoCo carb. airbox. rocker cover. nbsp;inlet and exhaust manifolds are still fitted to what seems to be an untouched original numbers matching early crossflow engine.  All the original glass is in place and unless someone wants to correct me on viewing. nbsp;I believe the car still has its original ford windscreen. With the input I've had from fellow classic ford owners locally and all of the above. I have every reason to believe this is a genuine 57k. extremely original car.

Maintenance/Servicing/Enhancement

When I first got the car everything about it. including the history suggests that its been used rarely since the late 80's. The previous owner implied he only taken it to the occasional show during the summer months in the past few years and other it had been tucked away in a nice safe garage. Although the car drove okay and was useable all be it in original mechanical fair. I decided to go through the vehicle an area at a time replacing or refurbishing any badly fatigued or worn parts with a combination of New Old Stock. high quality new parts from the likes of Burton or very good used where necessary. Here are details of the work that's been done:

Fitted a good used pair of Lucus sealed beam head lights

New radiator cap

New Yuasa correct square post type battery

New Waterpump. thermostat. NOS thermostat housing. full coolant replacement

New Waterpump/Dynamo belt

New front engine mounts - the gearbox one was replaced fairly recently by the previous owner

Clutch master and slave cylinder fully refurbished and fluid replaced - The clutch itself seems to be fairly new and has good action. The gearbox is very clean inside indicating its recent removal.

New Cortina GT spec 1" lowered front springs - the front inserts were inspected when these new springs were fitted and found to be in good order. again seemingly replaced in recent years. The lower arms and track rods were also inspected and found to be in good condition.

The original airbox and rocker cover have been powder coated in a close to original black. The air filter and rocker gasket were replaced at the same time and tappets adjusted.

New Lucus ignition coil fitted

New rotor arm/cap - distributor timing set by the garage that does all of maintenance on the car for me. at the same time they adjusted the Carb to make sure the car is running smoothly.

New silicon spark plug leads

New spark plugs

NOS Ford oil filler cap

Oil and filter changed approx. 1000 miles ago

A note on the mechanical fuel pump this seems to have been replaced by the previous owner and is in good working order.

New EBC OE spec solid 1300 front disks. EBC blackstuff OE front pads. all three flexies replaced with goodridge braided items. full brake fluid replacement with good quality DOT 4.

The Rear brake shoes and cylinders again looked to be in excellent condition. recently replaced by the previous owner so these were cleaned and adjusted as part of the brake overhaul.

New Sach's high quality rear shocks fitted and at the same time 1" lowering blocks were fitted to match the front. The rear leaf springs and hangers all seem to be in good condition.

New Ashley performance exhaust system finished in black - downpipe back. The original system was completely shot so I decided to go for this Cortina GT spec Ashley system. being black and only 2" exit its extremely subtle and gives only a nice throaty note under acceleration without being loud the rest of the time. I've used a polyurethane hanger to avoid any vibration and hopefully that wont ever need replacing.

New polyurethane front anti roll bar bushes were fitted due to the originals being as old as the car.

New Weller Lotus replica 5. 5j 13" steel wheels fitted with brand new British made chrome hub caps in the same style as the original items fitted to the car. 185/60/13" Falken tyres are fitted to these and have done approx. 800 miles.

New tailored floor matts finished in black

New Ford branded black alloy tax disk holder

Good used Cortina 1600E type chrome wing mirrors

Spares/Original Parts

The car comes with a big box full of original parts that I've removed from the vehicle as part of maintenance. nbsp;as well as a host of new or good used spares such as another set of rear brake shoes and cylinders. nbsp;brand new timing case gasket. brand new sump gasket kit. nbsp; brand new carb rebuild kit. NOS points. nbsp;all 5 original 4J 13" steel wheels. and anything else I think might be useful to the new owner.

Faults

Hopefully above you'll realise that this is a very honest. original and well maintained car but there are a couple of faults I have to mention that I've just not got round to resolving before sale.

These are:

The choke cable doesn't stay out - The car is supplied to the new owner with a good working choke cable that just needs fitting. Note the car runs so well that it starts absolutely fine anyway with just a hint of throttle or none at all if its really warm.

There is a minor sump gasket leak as with a lot of old fords. So minor that its barley registered on the dip stick over the 1000 miles. I was intending to do this as good practice over the winter so the car will be supplied to the new owner with the brand new sump gasket kit.

And finally the previous owner has disconnected the heater matrix water pipes in the engine bay. The fan blower electrics/controls are all fine and in good working order for cold air but obviously the previous owner was trying to avoid any leaks into the cabin if the matrix completely failed. The matrix is still in place as stated but disconnected from the water system. As I only use the car in fair weather this hasn't really been an issue. likewise I imagine this was the same for the previous owner. I understand its just a case of removing the matrix. having the core refurbed or just getting a good used item and fitting it.

Final Summary

To summarise. the car is a lovely. reliable and usable classic - it turns heads everywhere you go and came second in the pre 1970 Ford's class at the WONDERLAND Classic & Sports Car Festival 2013 which was the first time I had entered it at a show. It handles and drives very well. the engine is smooth and responsive(excellent torque) with a nice exhaust note under acceleration. The clutch action is good and the gearbox is very precise.  Braking wise it surely must be one of the best mk2's out there that are still running original sized brakes and solid discs. the feel is excellent. The steering is good for a box setup. and with modern tyres it really corners and stops well for a 45 year old vehicle. it would put some 80's cars to shame that I've owned. The interior is in great condition. nbsp;and shows little sign of ware.  The body work is not perfect and does have the odd age related mark/blemish but is extremely presentable especially in Alpina Green. Please note the car does look very similar to British racing green in the flesh. its come out a little dark on the pictures but hopefully the shine it has will tempt you into a viewing.

Thanks for getting through all of that I'm sure I'll have missed something. please call me or pm me to arrange any viewings or ask any questions.
