SELLER REMARKS
This very slick 1962 Buick Special wagon has a lot going for it. For one. obviously. it looks awesome. But it's also rare. as one of only 3000 built. It's powered by its original Fireball engine. one of the very first production V6s. Finally. it includes a lot of unusual features such as a manual transmission and factory air. making for one cool and unusual hauler.
Its relative rarity makes this Buick a delight to examine up close. and you'll see a lot of features here that were handed down from its upscale siblings. The pointed fenders were a Buick look for several years in the early '60s. emphasizing Buick's dual performance/luxury mission. OK. so the vivid red paint is probably a lot brighter and shinier than the original stuff. but why not give your trick hauler a high-visibility paint job? It's clean. straight. and looks awesome. and shows proper attention to the little stuff that make a car stand out. Dig the sweeping body lines that are direct descendants of the Buick "sweepspear" design of the post-war era. the way the taillight pods seamlessly blend into the quarters to retain the familial resemblance to the rest of the Special lineup. and that very cool three-piece rear window with a little spoiler above it. And it's all neatly finished with great gaps. bright trim. and no liberties taken with the build. This sucker is 100% Buick.
Finished in red tweed fabric. the interior is an easy place to spend some time. Both the front and rear bench seats are freshly upholstered and remain quite comfortable for long cruises. which is what this Buick was built to do. The dash was painted to match the body and enjoys a no-nonsense look with the instrument panel ahead of the driver housing a large speedometer and smaller auxiliary gauges in the panel just below. The steering wheel is pure 1960s jet-age cool. and yes. you'll note three pedals on the floor and a column-mounted shifter. a very rare feature on any Buick. let alone a wagon! The original AM radio remains in the dash. just above the very futuristic-looking A/C unit with omni-directional vents. The cargo bay is cavernous and beautifully finished. with a compartment underneath for the spare tire and extra storage.
Buick was a pioneer in the use of the V6 engine. and the 198 cubic inch unit found under the hood of this special Special was the first ever in an American production car. Essentially a cast iron version of the aluminum V8 less two cylinders. it's torque and virtually bulletproof. moving the relatively lightweight Special with aplomb. It wears Buick Turquoise paint. which makes it look like a mini Nailhead. and all the original equipment is intact. from air filter and carburetor. to exhaust manifolds. It starts easily and is a joy to run through the three-speed manual gearbox. which gives the Buick a sporty demeanor on the road. The chassis is remarkably clean. with floors that show off decades of clean living and speak volumes about the car's quality. Sporty period wheels give it a '60s hot-rod shop look and they wear 185/65/15 front and 235/60/15 rear tires.
Fun and unusual. this is the kind of car that generates attention simply because nobody's ever seen one before. Nicely finished. you'll love putting your new Buick wagon to work. Call today!
