MODEL HISTORY The first 'modern' Midget was essentially a re-badged Austin Healey Sprite MkII which itself was a development from the the original 1958 MkI Sprite. more frequently known as the Frogeye. The MkI Midget. as announced in June 1961 and fitted with a 46. 5bhp 948cc BMC "A" series engine was quite basic. with a very simple interior. sidescreens and stowaway hood. However it did just what its creators intended. and offered sporting motoring for minimum cost. It differed from the Sprite by having a traditional MG style of grille and extra trim. a black instead of white steering wheel. and other small detail differences. the uncomplicated but attractive car bringing under one litre motoring back to MG enthusiasts for the first time since 1936. This didn't last long though for in 1962 a more powerful version was introduced fitted with a 1098cc 56bhp version of the same engine. and in 1963 further improvements arrived in the form of front disc brakes and better interior trim. At this point also the engine received some further refinement by the fitting of larger 2" main bearings. this was in answer to the criticism of the engine being somewhat rough at higher revolutions. In all other respects the car remained as before. but big changes were to be revealed with the announcement of the MkII model in 1964. This version incorporated a completely new and far more comfortable cockpit. with wind up windows and swivelling quarter-lights. better instrumentation. lockable doors and the option of wire wheels. The biggest change however was to the rear suspension. the quarter elliptic springs being replaced by softer half elliptic's. resulting in a smoother ride. With the 1098cc engine now producing 59bhp due to a new three branch manifold. larger inlet valves and improved porting. the Midget was becoming sophisticated   RECENT WORK WITHIN LAST 5000 MILES   RECEIPTS FOR OVER £7000 WITH LARGE HISTORY FILE WEBER DCOE 45 CARB UNLEADED CYLINDER HEAD NEW CLUTCH REPLACED RADIATOR NEW 1275 GEARBOX NEW UPRATED WATER PUMP NEW WHEEL BEARINGS NEW REAR SPRINGS AND SHOCKS NEW BRAKE CALIPERS AND LINES NEW HOOD NEW POWERSPARK DISTRIBUTOR ELECTRONIC IGNITION UPRATED SILICONE HT LEADS AND COIL VARIOUS ELECTRICAL FAULTS RECTIFIED MASTER CYLINDER NEW FRONT AND REAR BUMPERS MANY NEW PANELS New steering rack   BODYWORK AND PAINT   The MG in finished in tartan red and is in very good condition with some imperfections and chips as can be seen in the photos and video (front wing paint chip) The car was painted around 2004 and has had little use since but please don't expect a concourse condition paint job. It is a good rust free example which has had a few patches on the floor pans over the years and is now complety solid and very useable.    MECHANICALS With the addition of the Weber dcoe 45 carburetor and 3 branch exhaust manifold  this Midget has much more power over standard and gives it a very different driving experience. It really is a fun car and would suit a driver who is looking for a bit more power and would be great at hill climbs and rallies etc. The brakes are effective and work very well having new calipers. discs and pads The gearbox is in perfect condition with no crunching with the bonus of been the uprated 1275 'box Steering is light and very tight with no slack and perfectly matched with the smaller Mountney wheel   INTERIOR The seats are finished in matching red vinyl and are in very good condition. All the carpets are in good used condition with some signs of age.     ELECTRICS Everything works as it should.   CHROMEWORK The bumpers are in very good solid condition with very few marks. The windscreen frame is in good condition. The front grill and light surrounds are in good condtion. The boot rack is in perfect condition     WEATHER GEAR   The hood is black vinyl and is brand new .     TYRES AND WHEELS The tyres are all in good condition with no sidewall cracking and plenty of tread. The wheels are original painted wire wheels fitted with chrome knock off spinners.
