Found while on the hunt for Italian classic cars in Italy is this completely original NEVER been welded and apart from one small hole at the bottom of the spare wheel well in the boot where a magazine had got under the spare wheel and blocked the drain hole. completely rust free ONE OWNER from new. Left Hand Drive 1963 Mk1 Cortina 2 Door "Pre-airflow" 1200 Deluxe with only 49000 on the clock (Yes thats just over 30K miles). This car has the  "strip" speedometer which makes it a very early car as Mk1s only had this set up for the first 9 months of production. It was made in Dagenham for the LHD european market then shiped to Italy where it was sold in July 63 to its first and only Lady owner who was then 53 at the time. from there it lived in Rome until un-fortunately she passed away ( she would be 107 odd if still alive today). At this point her "younger" brother parked it in his garage. exactly as she left it maps etc on the parcel shelf and thats where it stayed for the next 27 years! We bought her and shipped her back to the UK and so far all we have done is clean 27 years of dust off her. drained the fuel system. cleaned the fuel pump and filter plus added an additional in-line one. un-stuck the points. replaced the heater outlet pipe on the water pump that was leaking and started her up. Sounds as sweet as when she left the factory. The brake pedal is on the floor and the clutch master or slave cylinder is siezed so no you cannot drive her home. We have decided to offer her at a lower price to allow either restoration. well more re-commisioning. as a standard original car or maybe built as a historic rally car/ lotus shell donor (where would you buy a rust free shell) so any money spent by us that puts the price up would be a waste of time. Interior is again one hundread percent original and in very good order with just the odd nick here and there but still very servicable. All the electrics work apart from the horn which ironically appears to be the only non original item on the car. but there is power there so a replacement one from the right era will do the job. Body wise her lines are dead straight but obviously she was used and parked in Rome so there are the odd "skirmish" marks here and there with signs of paintwork being done over the years. but again nothing bad at all. underneath. floor pads etc are all exceptional. chrome is all very good with just a light patina of age. Tires exhaust. wheels etc are also excellent. I genuinely believe that with the brakes etc sorted she is not far away from an MOT if you want to use "as-is" but this is just my observation and NOT a statement of fact. Obviously not only are you welcome to come and inspect her you are actively encouraged to. as people have different opinions and we want no mis-understanding. If there are specific areas you want more pictures of please do not hesitate to ask. We have all the relevant paperwork in hand. plus a whole load more. so if once UK mot'd you want assistance to register her we will gladly help. The only cost to register. once mot'd. would be the £55 first reg fee and your number plates as there is no duty or vat outstanding. ( SEE NOTE BELOW ) Please feel free to ask questions and a sensible bid might be entertained. Now the boring bit. Payment can ONLY be in cash or money transfer direct to the bank. The car goes nowhere until cleared funds are not only recieved by the bank but garanteed by them too. Overseas enquiries are welcome but the same applies although we can accept payment in Euro's if it helps. at the agreed bank ex rate on the day. Thanks and hope to hear from you soon. www. classics-cabriolets. co. uk  Rochford Essex for further stock details. We also have a mint 34000kms from new 1100XL Mk1 Escort four door coming)

PLEASE NOTE:

Due to the high number of enquiries we have now gone ahead and carried out the work required to MOT and then register her. Work carried out included : New Clutch master cylinder. new brake master cylinder. 6x new brake wheel cylinders. new brake flexi hoses. all items supplied as new old stock original parts including the hard to find early type clutch master cylinder with the remote reservoir. She sailed through the mot on everything else  :-).   We also had an oil and filter change carried out plus new spark plugs fitted while there.                                                                                                                                                                                                                      We have just received her registration from DVLA and as we proved her original date of birth she is now registered on a nice 6 digit plate that reads 854YUU. We have had to move the price accordingly to cover the £800 in costs to carry out the mot work and registration fees. So now FULLY UK registered with effectively 12 months MOT and Tax. Thanks for all the interest.

WE have had alot of people saying if it was cheaper they would buy it for the shell. What we have just bought is another MK1 2 door 1963 LHD again of the rare strip speedo. pre-airflow type. It is 100% complete and runs with the aid of a suplementary fuel supply (suspected fuel pump failure). Interior is servicable apart from the dash pad which is cracked from the sun. body has a patina of age all over. with paint peel on one wing which has allowed the metal underneath to brown but no holes otherwise apart from a  small hole in the spare wheel well the body is very very solid with no signs of any previous repairs. glass. trims. bumper's etc all good. This car will be £5K landed here in the UK "As is" so if you want an easy restoration job or a shell for your 1500GT or Lotus it would be perfect (If it is just the shell you want remember how much the bits you dont need are worth). We have a file of pictures so if interested please contact us. Thanks
