My good friend George has asked me to sell his second to last vintage car.   I've sold his Ghia. Allard and helped on a few others.   His Rolls has been his baby for a long time. and it will be bittersweet. but he's maintained it's time to 'thin the herd' and so we arrive at today.   She is a pretty. pretty car. with many other RR's bodied in different coachwork. ie. Hooper. Park Ward etc. but this one is special. as James Young did not body many Silver Wraiths. Currently in driver condition. a long term owner would want to paint her. but we think she sits great as a "survivor" of types. and patina on a 61 year old car is special. but you'll have to judge for yourself.


Here are the specs:

1955 Rolls Royce Silver Wraith James Young LWB (aluminum)

Chassis- ELW46. she's RHD

Body JY #1851. 639 LWB cars produced

Paper title. registration in hand

Running and driving. gearbox was recently rebuilt 2016. July. and has 50 miles on her.

4. 9Litre F head engine. Straight 6. Hydramatic 4spd Automatic Gearbox. with a complete apart rebuild in July 2016. to the tune of $6. 00. 00

The paint is believed to be original. and has excellent patina (small crease in the passenger door)

Wood work was originally lacquer. 2-3 owners ago unfortunately put some varnish on-top. and that didn't fare well. a new owner would want to re-finish

Navy blue on with red/gold striping (20ft car) 4 out of 10. original. but patina. Interior is Crème Leather (6 out of 10. some crazing. but not cracked)

Original RCA tube type (functioning) radio

(in the back. there's a more modern radio set up AM/FM. with concealed speakers)

Electric separation glass. functions fine

(1st owner bought in London. second owner was in England as well. pin striping added sometime around the late 1950's)

All original except (hardened valve seats. and replaced u-joint with Ford part. the OE was becoming noisy)

1972 Rolls Royce Club Medallion Winner. 1st in Class (on the side. magazine included). 1994 3rd in Class Rolls Royce Club Medallion Winner (Annual Club Show)

Original owner's manual. factory repair manual. British Registry (copy) of designer drawings for the interior design (for customer's to choose)

All tools included (waterpump greaser. oil “suck”. oil can. crank tool. removable flashlight)

Tools. incl. jack. hub cap remover. aluminum wrench etc. luggage clips too

Ralph Surzon in Canada did a $4. 00 brake job about 5. 00 miles ago. standard hydraulic in front. mechanical all around. including servos

All correct hub cap wheels. with correct spare. and 5” white wall tyres (older)

Crystal (complete) Waterford (Coleen style). Bespoke for the car.   The factory (Waterford) made it (4oz) specifically for this car after George broke a glass… 2 pewter 8oz. flasks. and 2 Cartier nut dishes

Re-done radiator

59. 50 miles (@ 50. 00 the odometer stopped. and the trip took over. so. +9. 00 miles)

George bought it from the gentleman Gray Farr who owned it with his son.

He purchased the Beuleighy factory ownership documents through his ownership. James Young brochure etc. and a LOT of paperwork. Seven drawings (working drawings) of interior choices etc. can be framed. Service records from SRS (Sam Rollins in Atlanta). engine work. in detailed description ($25. 00 engine bill. etc. ) Gearbox book. engine book. service manuals/books etc.

 

The asking price is $57. 00. 00 USD and the car is located in Selma. AL in heated/dry storage.   George still drives in throughout the year to keep fluids and things fresh.
