1979 MG MGB roadster for sale
So I rented a workspace. bought the necessary components to do the retro-fit to a Chrome Bumper car and began (see the pics). I fitted the full Sebring kit to the front and rear of the car. acquired a Twin Carb setup. drove it quite a bit while building it and have now lost interest. Part of the losing interest had to do with age (75 last May). So you can buy an "Old Looking" but newer B. that runs great and handles so well. The OD does not work yet so I took it to the excellent crew at SCC (Sports Car Craftsmen. a well regarded local firm) and they fault-traced it to a dead "Inhibitor Switch" I bought a new one but cannot install it. my skill level does not cover that. but maybe yours does?
Car has a great "zipper window" top (with no rips/tears) and an almost new FULL tonneau cover. very good interior with no rips/tears. even the clock and radio work. I removed the strange "turbine" alloywheels it came with (see pics)s and fitted rims I learned about in college. Datsun 240Z rims fit perfectly and are a half inch wider and look good so the car has 5 redone DatsunZ rims with year-old tires/new-lugnuts. Last summer I had the radiator boiled-out and installed a new water-pump/all hoses/belts/thermostat/etc. When I bought it I installed a SearsDiehard Battery. . Then a new windshield and wipers and sunvisors. hen SCC installed a new clutch master and slave cylinder with new hose. and the list goes on. AND the B goes down the road with 55 pounds of oil pressure at normal temp. (new car oil pressure per the manual) The car comes with a sizable set of new and used parts. (lotta stuff I have not had a chance to install yet). Maybe you will? Parts that are NIB (new in box NIB parts include (but are not limited to) Front/Rear lowering kits from Moss Motors. Lucas sport coil. plug wire set. OD inhibitor switch. twin Battery Boxes. distributor cap. muffler and tubing with brackets. and more (see pics)
Used Parts include a full twin carb setup that includes header/intake/carbs/linkage/gaskets and New Grosse-Jets and Main jets. hrome VC+gaskets. Original 79 tailight assemblies. (see pics) All reciepts/manuals/documents go in a folder with the car. Car has all original jacking equipment in trunk with a new spare. Body and paint have yet to be completed. but you get to drive/enjoy the car as you decide on color and such
Please send your questions?thanks Glenn. On Aug-13-16 at 09:53:17 PDT. seller added the following information:
NOTE: as regards the F/R "lowering)? kits. in 1975. with the rubber-bumper cars. the cars were raised up on their suspension to meet Federal Headlight regulatiuons. This compromised the handling. So when you convert a 76 to 80 MBB to the Old School Look. you convert the front end. Then you convert the back end. Then you lower the car to pre-75 ride height. The front/back has been converted on my car. and Moss sold me the kit to drop the front 1. 5 inches and a kit to drop the rear 1 inch. The two kits come with my car NIB.
U-tube and Moss have videos/pictures showing how easy it is. The front consists of two shorter coil springs and various fittings/bolts. But you will need a spring compressor (rentable. they are) The rear consists of a pair of Lowering Blocks and 4 longer U-springs two rebound straps and various fittings/bolts. Only simple hand tools are needed. At that point the B will have a very accurate "look" of a 65-B. and handle as well as a new 65 B.
New NOTE ; per three requests to see the car in person". I will be back in town on the 18th. this coming Thursday. I am hoping to arrange a group-showing thursday afternoon or Friday AM. one fellow has given me a phone number. waiting for the other two. And if you are considering an immediate purchase you need to have the cash price on hand. Not tomorrow. not after you ask your wife. not after you ask your significant other. :)Seriously guys?
