1956 Daimler Conquest

The Conquest owes little to its predecessor the Consort. being the first in a new generation of Daimler cars.
The Conquest used a large cruciform chassis a double wishbone front suspension. with laminated torsion bars. telescopic dampers. and an anti-roll bar. while the rear suspension used leaf springs with telescopic dampers.
The Daimler Conquest had a straight six cylinder engine of 2433cc capacity. bore & stroke 76. 2 x 88. 9cc push rod operated overhead valves with a compression ratio of 6. 6 to 1. This unit produced a brisk 75 hp at 4000 rpm using a single Zenith downdraught carburetor.
This was then mated to a four speed pre-select gearbox with direct third and overdrive fourth.
The by now well proven Daimler ‘fluid flywheel' was used with a final Hypoid bevel drive giving 17. 4 MPH per 1. 00 RPM.
There were a number of variants over its production run. including a saloon which we have here. a coupe and a roadster body all available.

The name Conquest came reportedly came from the pre-tax price of £1066!

The car was also allegedly developed in an amazingly short period of 4 months!

This Conquest's V5 states this vehicle has been in the same ownership since May 1978 and was only exchanged with ourselves due to the owner fulfilling his ambition to own a soft top sports car!
(The owner exchanged the Conquest for one of our MG TD's)

A large interesting history file accompanies ‘SUF 501' in which is contained a copy of ‘The Driving Member' a club produced publication. of which ‘SUF' adorns the 1986 edition.

Both period ‘Shell' & ‘Esso' service packs are supplied containing a number of early recorded services & lubrication. the earliest being 1969!

Within the folder are a large number of previous MOT test certificates the most recent being 2013 where a speedometer reading of 78. 21 is recorded. There are also around the same number of soon to be abolished ‘Windscreen Tax Discs'.

One of the nicest additions to the vehicles history folder is a ‘Rules for Dinsdale' colourful drawing piece by one of the owner's young daughters. In this piece rules such as ‘Do not press buttons' and ‘Sit still and look out of the window' are listed accompanied by an appropriate diagram.
Dinsdale being the family's name for ‘SUF' !
That little girl is now a married lady with her own young children…. I wonder if she applies the same rules in her car with her kiddies!!??

'Dinsdale' will come with a new full years MOT test and a pre-delivery service. Just turn the key and go!
