Dodge : Lancer Custom Royal Lancer Convertible

This auction is for a very rare 1958 Dodge convertible that is undergoing a frame-off restoration. So the auction is for a restored and finished car.

We bought this 1958 Dodge convertible in 1989 from a collector in the mid-west. At the time it was 100% original and untouched (see pictures of the unrestored car).

The car is a very late production Dodge and it was ordered not only in a rare spring color. Poppy Red and with the complete 12 piece Spring Special Trim Package. but it also had a factory installed Speed Minder built in to the speedometer.

The Speed Minder was a 1959 Dodge option but it could be ordered on the very latest built 1958 Dodges also.

I have not personally ever seen another 1958 with the Speed Minder. but I know of 2 other 1958 Dodges that have that option. one in Europe and one in the US.

This car also has Power Steering. Power Brakes. Power Windows. Dual Rear Antennas. Tinted Glass. Padded Dash. Clock. Chrome Exhaust Outlets. etc.

Under the hood originally was a 4 bbl 350 wedge engine. but we are changing it to a 361 with dual 4 bbl carburetors to make it a Super D500 car.

We are in the process of doing a frame-off. super high quality restoration the way the Dodge left the factory with the exception of adding the D500 package.

We have not decided if we are also adding a Power Seat or not.

The body and sheet metal have never been bad but we stripped it to bare metal inside and out. did the minor rust repair needed and we are painting the body in January-February in the original Poppy Red color.

The chrome was very nice but of course it is all redone and it is all triple plated Show Chrome.

We are using lots of NOS parts during the restoration.  We have been collecting excellent and new parts for the restoration for over 20 years.

The body is lifted off the frame. the frame was blasted. painted. and detailed. and front-end and rear-end totally redone. new brakes. new shocks. etc.

The interior is 100% correct and everything is fresh and new. New convertible top cylinders. pump. and hoses.

The car will be assembled and finished as a very high quality show car.

We have been in the 1957-62 Mopar restoration business for the last 29 years and we have done more frame-off restorations of 1957-59 Dodge and DeSoto cars than most shops in the US.

In January of this year we moved into a huge 25. 00 building in downtown Phoenix and we are now for the first time in 25 years taking on customer work. anything from frame-off restorations to service work on old cars.

We are putting the Dodge on eBay to check what kind of interest there is in the car.  If you are interested in purchasing the Dodge as a restored car we will require a deposit with the balance due after the car is finished.

I am not sure if there's another 1958 Dodge Custom Royal Lancer convertible for sale anywhere in the world except for the black/gold restored car that was a no sale after it was bid up to $170. 00 at an auction last spring.

Either way. they are very rare anymore and I think it is correct to say that this car is unique with the Spring Special color. interior and the options it has.

We have exported LOTS of older cars all over the world during the 29 years we have had our restoration business in Arizona so international buyers are welcome and we can easily handle export to most any corner of the world.

We are also doing a frame-off restoration on a 1957 DeSoto Adventurer convertible that will be for sale after it is finished.

We have a 1957 Custom Royal Lancer convertible that was repainted and reupholstered 40 years ago but otherwise is original and nice that we'd sell as is.

And a 1959 DeSoto Firesweep convertible that will be restored as soon as the Adventurer and the 1958 Custom Royal Lance conv are finished.

I was asked to add dash pictures so a person on eBay could see what a 1958 Dodge Custom Royal Lancer dash looks like.  

So I added two dash pictures. They are from one of our parts cars since the convertible dash is out of the car.
