This is the last of the late and great Pontiac 400s. To commemorate the 10th anniversary of the invent of the Trans Am in the Pontiac Firebird line up a new
Special Edition was introduced on February 18. 1979 at the Daytona 500. These cars were not your run of the mill firebirds but very special and detailed birds.  There were
only 7500 offered and the only option was the Pontiac 400 /4 speed or the Oldsmobile 403/auto.  There were only 1817 Special Editions equipped with the remaining 400s
Pontiac had on its shelfs as production of the 400 had ceased at the foundry and they got the required T-10 4 speed. The remaining 5683 had the 403 Olds motor and an
automatic transmission.
All anniversary cars were treated to the works in the option department with specific factory Custom Silver Leather Interior with Embroidered Anniversary Badges. nbsp;
Plush Shag Carpet. "New" Turbo Style Wheels. and Silver Tinted T-Tops and red tinted factory gauges. It also came factory with the WS-6 handling package which
included factory disc brake rear end coupled with a posi 3. 42 ratio because of the 400/4 speed.  It also had an introductory two-tone silver and charcoal paint scheme topped
by a special bird that was larger than ever and extended to the tops of the fenders. Also Included were all the regular commodities an upscale Trans Am would have .  PW. nbsp;
PDL. Power Steering. A/C. Rear Defrost. Power Trunk Release. Tilt Steering Column and Custom Steering Wheel. These cars were premiere performers and combined
with great looks they still have the same great appeal today as the day they were brand new!
This particular 10th Anniversary car has a long history as a family cruiser and street bruiser. It is a 1 owner car that still has its #s matching drivetrain. It was running
when parked 4 years ago but will definitely need a tune up if not gone through for precautionary reasons. Its intake and carb have been swapped for an aluminum intake
and holley carbbut that appears to be the only thing changed. it DOES still have its specific 400/4 speed PWH coded block. T-10 4 speed transmission and 3. 42 posi disc
brake rear end are all there as well. The wheels are all present and the silver T-Tops are in perfect condition. The sheet metal and body is very respectable and suprisingly
straight on the car. The quarters are very nice as are the rockers. The bottoms of the fenders have a little surface rust as do the bottom of the doors.  The floorboard is
questionable as there small areas in the front and back toe board areas. relatively small but depends how you want to attack it.  The trunk is very nice and solid except for
right above the gas tank where the mat has caused some scaling and light rot. If you have any questions or need more pictures contact me and I will answer them and get
some pics as well. I want to fairly represent the car. Overall its in pretty good shape and should be an easy restoration for its new buyer.
This is one rare firebird and I had plans to restore the car but my plans have changed. This is an important piece of Pontiac history and I believe it needs to be restored
and brought back to its glory! It is too nice of a start on a fairly easy project that actually offers some good value and return if need be.  Being all there I believe it would be
perfect for a collection all the way to a cruiser but with lower than average miles it deserves a good home not to become a dirt track race car pilfered for its nice parts. It has
a very reasonable reserve and comes with a lot of extra parts as well available upon pick up.  Cleaning up a little of sorts so offering my long time project. Good Luck!  Any questions message or call (828) 289-3204   Dale  THANKS FOR LOOKING!
