1964 Morris Minor Traveller – Java Green

This is an interesting ‘transitional' vehicle having the external appearance of a 1098cc car. but with interior trim from the 948cc series deluxe option. The car left the factory in this condition and where items have been replaced. it has been on a ‘like for like' basis to retain the original appearance as far as possible.

The colour is ‘Java Green'. which although not an original Morris Minor colour (original Mini's were painted this colour). it compliments the rear woodwork.

I have owned this car for more than 30 years. having bought it as an MOT failure and with the intention to take it off the road and carry out a full restoration. After much work and expense it was eventually ready. achieving its MOT certificate in June 1992. being exactly 10 years to the day on which it failed. Since then it has been available for daily use (shopping. the school run. etc. . and has even ventured to the south of France on holiday.

As part of the original restoration the car was stripped out completely. rusty metal cut out and repair panels welded in. then stripped back to bare metal and re-sprayed. new wooden side and door frames installed. reconditioned engine and gearbox fitted. interior trim replaced where needed. followed by a thorough overhaul of the suspension. steering. brakes. electrical components and fuel system. Upgrades included fitting inertia reel seat belts for the front seats and static belts for the rear. Also. the front headlamps are fitted with halogen bulbs. Otherwise. the car is to near original specification with 1098cc engine. manual gearbox and drum brakes (no servo) all around.

Whilst the car has been back on the road. work in recent years has included the fitting of a reconditioned engine (1098cc) with unleaded head. re-trimming of the front seats. new chrome bumpers and a new indicator stalk. The car retains its original ‘duo tone' rear seat and rear loading bay trim.

There are a couple of ‘trim' items that will require attention. These are the fitting of new ‘crush' foam trim to the front parcel shelf and replacement runners for the rear side windows.

I have retained many invoices for work carried out and parts purchased. which will come with the car.
