Lotus Elan S4/SE. Fixed Head Coupe

Background Information

I have owned the car 40 years.  It is in original condition. with no modifications. except

-   high flow air cleaner replacing stock canister.

-   clutch master cylinder larger diameter.  and

-   Weber DCOE 40 replacing DCOE 36 carburettors

The car is an occasional ‘driver' and is not a show car. During 1975-77 the car was used for autocross. track days. and teaching competition license students. In the late 1970s it was used as a daily driver.  Since the mid-1980s. I have used the car very little.

When purchased. the car was painted in Gold Leaf Racing livery. It has been kept the same - Red. over White with a gold stripe along bumper line. The original Gold Leaf Team Decal and Goodyear Racing Tire Decal in the trunk have been removed.

Condition

All instruments and (original) radio work. All switches work except. four way flasher and kill switches which are disconnected. Brake fluid has been flushed and the differential and transmission oil replaced.

The car has always has had 165/13 tires instead of the original 155/13 size. This is the reason for the ellipse wear on the front fenders above the tires.

I have not kept invoices. From memory. the major service record on the car is;

1983

replace wiring loom

1988

engine rebuild

I believe the engine now has about 10. 00 miles since rebuilding

2000

replace timing chain and distributor gear

I believe the engine now has about 2. 00. since replacing the timing chain

2008

replace all rubber parts in suspension

I believe the car has about 300 miles since replacing suspension parts

2013

replace veneer on dash
