This MGA Mk l Roadster is a genuine RHD car and is an excellent example having undergone substantial restoration.

The Heritage Certificate shows that it was originally exported on 4th May 1957 to South Africa in completely knocked down form and is one of only 752 examples to be built for the South African market at the Motor Assemblies Limited plant in Durban for British Car Distributors Ltd.

The South African paperwork shows that it was registered as BXD776T and underwent a restoration in 1985. By 1992 it was residing at Edenvale in the Johannesburg area.

It remained in South Africa until being repatriated by a UK classic car dealer in early 1999 and registered for the first time in the UK in April 1999 on the registration number MSJ964 which it still wears today.

It was immediately sold to it's second UK registered owner on the basis that the selling dealer would undertake a substantial restoration and upgrade the car to the buyers requirements. The history file contains the detailed correspondence between them showing the work undertaken and the progress being made.

It was professionally upgraded with a 1800cc Ivor Searle unleaded engine. Type Nine five speed gearbox and front disc brakes which makes it very usable in modern traffic.

The car was also fitted with a stainless steel exhaust. Kenlowe fan. chrome wire wheels. heater. mohair tonneau cover. full harness Willans belts. Desmo windscreen mirrors. upgraded radiator. Mota Lita streering wheel and dozens of other new parts that add up to a total expenditure of close to £20000. The new owner took delivery in September 1999 on completion of the work.

During the first year of his ownership. new sliding sidescreens were bought. front spot lights fitted and a removable hard top acquired and finished in the correct colour. This owner kept the car for nearly nine years.

In May 2008. he sold to direct to the third and last UK registered owner. a recently early retired enthusiast who immediately started to prepare the car for a planned 2800 mile tour of Europe in 2010. The work completed before this tour consisted of new stainless steel exhaust. new wheel bearings. new rear brake cylinders. new brake flexi pipes. complete new clutch. steering rack overhauled. new track rod ends. new 3/4" roll bar. new radiator. hoses and four new tyres.

He also had a external removable spare wheel carrier custom made to enable more space in the boot while touring. This can be seen in some of the photos. Removable rear indicators were also fitted for safety. The gentleman and his wife made the trip through France. Germany. Austria. Italy and Switzerland without problem and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Although the car is now MOT exempt as it was manufactured prior to 1960. it has a current MOT which runs until May 2015 and the current Free Historic Road Tax until the end of March 2015 is on the windscreen.

The large history file contains a copy of the South African registration document. subsequent DVLA V5's. previous MOT certificates. heritage certificate. valuation forms. photographs for insurance and the dozens of invoices for the work completed.

Classic open top sports motoring and likely to be an excellent investment.
