1929 Morris EMPIRE Oxford four seat Tourer.   As you will probably not need telling. the Empire Oxford was Morris' answer to the more extreme driving conditions in the Empire in the 1920s.   With a wider track. a much more powerful engine. (15. 9 RAC HP) and a bigger body. it was somewhat more “grown up” than the UK specification Morris Oxford.   Almost all of these Empire Oxfords were exported to the Colonies. and many had very hard lives indeed.     A very few were sold in the UK. and this appears to be one.   In the UK. the car was called the 16/40 Oxford.   According to the dash board plate. it appears the car was supplied new via the major London Morris Distributor. Stewart and Arden.

The car has recently had a full engine rebuild. and runs very well.   The gate change FOUR speed gear box appears fine (it is a crash box). and the car drives well.   However it is nearly 85 years old. so please judge by the standards of 1929 and not those of 2014.

The car is fitted with the wonderful Barker Patented Headlamp Dipping system…. which works!

The trim and weather equipment are in good order. and the car has had an electric petrol pump fitted for reliability.   It also has a later regulator for the dynamo. and. as you can see in the pictures. a calorimeter and a rather fine mascot.

Paint is older and is not the cars best point.   Frankly. I would want to paint the wings and a couple of the body panels. but of course. this should be done with hand applied coach paint. and so it well within the scope of a competent owner.

A fine 1920's four seat four door Tourer which may find considerable demand in the Wedding Car market. as well as TV and films. and of course for rather elegant family touring.

The car come with the rear mounted trunk as seen. and will be MOT'd prior to sale.

Please satisfy yourself about the car before you bid.   You are welcome to view the car by appointment. near High Wycombe in Bucks.   We would be delighted to spend some time with you.   Please remember that a winning bid is a contract and any buyer who tries haggle after the sale. will be covered in honey. pegged out under the blazing sun. and have ten thousand red ants stuffed down their boxer shorts.

And no scams please about strange banks. strange buyers. strange documents. or even stranger lottery wins.    The car goes nowhere until we have full cleared funds in our bank. and we expect contact from the buyer within 24 hours of the end of the auction. and payment and collection (or delivery) within 14 days.

We can deliver anywhere in the UK. Europe or the Rest of the World.    As a rough guide. delivery in the UK to anywhere south of a line from Bristol to the Wash would be around £200. above this line to the Borders. around £300 and from the borders to Glasgow/ Edinburgh around £400.   For delivery beyond these areas. please contact us.

The car WILL be sold to the highest bidder. beyond the very modest start price there is NO RESERVE.   The car is advertise elsewhere. so we reserve the right to withdraw the car from eBay at any time. Part exchanges are welcome. but classics only as we simply don't understand the modern new fangled things with electronic gizmos and heated ice cream holders.
