1962 JAGUAR MK II 3. 8 LITRE Automatic

For many the definitive Jaguar sports saloon. the MKII was introduced in October 1959. A peerless blend of elegance and muscularity. its sleek lines clothed an evolution of the Coventry marque's first monocoque design.

a derivative of the same XK DOHC straight-six engine that had swept Jaguar to five Le Mans victories. the MKII was quick to dominate contemporary saloon car racing. Equipped with coil-and-wishbone independent front suspension. a leaf-sprung Salisbury rear axle and servo-assisted four-wheel disc brakes. the range-topping 3. 8 boasted nearly seven times the horsepower of a Mini 850 and a 126mph top speed!

Blessed with one of the all time great automotive interiors. its stylish instrumentation. rich wood veneers and sumptuous leather upholstery all conspired to cosset and cocoon occupants.

First registered as 'NWC 364' on November 9th 1962. this 'matching numbers' example was originally finished in Opalescent Dark Blue with Grey leather upholstery. are reclining front seats and steel wheels. Supplied new to Leslie Fellow Esq. of Leigh-on-Sea. it passed to Alfred Cheshire of Billericay less than two years later. A surviving MOT certificate indicates that the Jaguar had covered some 49. 73 miles by March 1974. Taken off the road following the death of Mr Cheshire's wife. the MKII remained garaged until the late 1990s when it entered its third owners hands a Mr Alan Brown of Danbury Essex.

Mr Brown a car dealership proprietor and classic car collector of repute set about the sympathetic restoration of NWC364. Found to be structurally very sound. the sports saloon at that time had attention paid to its brakes. wheel bearings. suspension. power steering. subframe mounts. shock absorbers. heater. petrol tank. radiator. propshaft and exhaust etc. Further benefiting from an engine and automatic transmission rebuild (plus unleaded fuel conversion). the Jaguar was refinished in its correct period livery. Something of a timewarp. the sports saloon's interior retains its factory fitted upholstery and wood trim. Believed but not warranted to have covered just 52. 00 miles from new. this charming four owner MKII 3. 8 litre is offered for sale with history file (original buff logbook. numerous restoration invoices and MOT certificates. currently valid until July 2014 however a new MOT will be provided to the purchaser at the date of sale.

Exterior

This matching numbers example was originally finished in opalescent Dark Blue and has been refinished in a close match clear over colour modern paint. Alan Brown found the MK11 3. 8 to be structurally very sound only requiring minimal Bodywork with No new panels required. The paint shop was instructed to spend the budget on a complete strip down repaint to the highest standard paying attention to door gap and panel alignment. The paint today is as good as it looks in the photos. (Note there is a very small chip repair to the bonnet edge at the rear near the battery. Just want to point this out if potential overseas buyers buy without viewing). The door Jambs are clean/free from chips and marks as is the boot area.

The engine bay is in a unrestored condition. It has underseal applied to the bulk head and inner wings. again this has done its job in protecting the inner wings from corrosion. I think if the engine came out at any stage in the future this would be the time to remove the protection and re-paint the engine bay. (Maybe that's me just being fussy)

Interior

Something of a timewarp. the sports saloon's interior retains its factory fitted reclining seats Grey Leather upholstery and wood trim. Blessed with one of the all time great automotive interiors. Alan wanted to retain the character and patina of the MK11 by having the sumptuous leather seats connolised. he wood trim was treated to a re-lacquer and A new headlining and deep pile wool carpet were also fitted to finish the job. its stylish instrumentation. rich wood veneers and sumptuous leather upholstery all conspired to cosset and cocoon occupants.

Boot/Underside

The Boot retains its original Jack. Tool Kit and boot-mat along with a new unused spare wire wheel. he side covers are in place with no splits or wear. (Note the Boot mat has two very small nicks in the centre see photo). On under side of vehicle has a covering of under-seal protection applied. while I am no fan of this I note that it has done its job and kept the corrosion away. Structurally She is in Fantastic shape with No rot.

Detailing

A peerless blend of elegance is created through the Detailing on this Saloon. Much attention has been paid to the finish to retain the aged patina of NWC364. So often one comes across a restored vehicle that has lost all of its original interior only to be replaced with all new or none original trim that has created that over restored look. Not so in this case. Only the bumpers and over-riders were sent to Derby Chroming for re-plating all other chrome just required polishing to give a nice aged finish. etails like the Period Radio. wind up Antenna. Reclining Seats. ool Kit. riginal Boot Mat. ll add to charm of this MK11
