Hi, I'm sending this email for general interest, I've specialised in the Fiat 1100D range of cars, and also very familiar with all the other types of older Fiats.

Been born in SA, not at age 50, have just recently in the last year, left SA and now in the UK.

I know a lot about the various Fiats assembled in SA, and was a very active member of the Fiat club in SA.

The Fiat 1500 cars were, as far as I have records assembled by Motor Assemblies, Mobeni, just outside Clairwood/Merebank.

Could you see if your Fiat has the BUILD TAG in the engine bay, it will probably be somewhere near the Chassis tag, and will have a number stamped F15 which means Fiat 1500, followed by the UNIT/PRODUCTION NUMBER.

I have records of total number of units assembled:
1) Sedan from May 1962 to Jul 1969 = 16748 units
2) Station wagon from Nov 1965 to Apr 1967 = 624 units

yours is the series 1, and series 2 versions from 1965 were known as the SABLE version, but that was a South African name, in Italy the series 2 were known as FIAT 1500C.

It would be interesting to see what the assembly unit number is on your Fiat 1500.
