One of very few Soft Windows produced in 1969.

Heavily optioned as per the COA. Special Color Paint. Air Conditioning. Leather Seats. 5 Speed. Pirelli's. Retractable Rear Soft Window.

According to the records we were able to obtain. there were less than 250 Soft Window Targa's built in 1969. This was for all 911's that year. T's. E's and S's. The consensus is that long wheel base soft window Targa is one of the most rare Porsche 911's you can get. Only 12 of the 1969 911Es had this option. as did nine 9llS models and 144 911Ts according to a recent Road and Track article.

With this color combination. this could be a one of one easily.

We obtained this car about 2 years ago with some restoration work being already done. The floors and front pan were done and the car was in primer.   The paint job is show quality. with no defects. bubbles. or sanding marks.   It has several coats that have been wet sanded to perfection and very high gloss finish.   They underside was re-undercoated with the proper Worth products.

We spent a lot of time and money completing it.  At every decision point. we did our best to get the right part to keep it correct.   At one point in time the car had been “updated” with a hard rear window. All of the proper parts were obtained to get it back to its correct configuration.

The dash. seats and carpet kit were done by Tony Garcia. of Autobahn Interiors. to his typically impeccable show standards. The Targa top was sent out to Cars Inc. . a specialist who completely rebuilt it.   All seals. window seals and tracks have been replaced.   The car was gone through from top to bottom. all new seals. Koni shocks. braking system. hoses.  Renn Aire AC system. lens's. hardware. tires. the list goes on and on.  The suspension has all new bushings front and rear. and were powder coated or re-zinc coated to near new condition.  Also. brand new SSI Stainless Heat Exchangers and a Dansk. Stainless Sport dual outlet exhaust was used.   We went with this exhaust because the valences had cut outs on both sides when we got the car. but the original muffler was in poor condition.

Pretty much. if it moved. turned. or was an item that you touch. it was rebuilt or replaced.   Most parts came from Pelican. Stoddard and Sierra Madre.

The motor was thoroughly gone over and checked out before being completely re-sealed and cosmetically restored.  Only upgrades were Turbo lower valve covers. and tensioners with safeties.   With less than 5% leak-down all across. the decision was made to go no further internally than standard tune-up items. The motor is very healthy and made just over 120hp at the wheels when the carburation was dialed in on the dyno. The Italian Webers were completely reconditioned. with original airbox.  It does not smoke. starts great hot or cold. and after a bit of fiddling. is nice and dry.

The 5 speed transmission shifts great. all syncro's are good and makes no bad noises. it is a 5 speed.   We replaced the clutch and T/O bearing. resurfaced flywheel. resealed it and filled it with Swepco fluid.

The instrumentation and lighting works properly. including the turn signals.   Only change was an added starter button under the dash. 69' ignition switch is a 1 year only and we couldn't find a new one.

This car comes complete with a tool kit. jack. spare tire and an owner's manual.

Driving an open Soft Window Porsche is a remarkable experience. Wind turbulence is minimal. even by modern standards. It's a bit like riding a motorbike. all of your senses feel alive. no enclosed cockpit comes close. Everything else is standard 911 fare. which is to say. excellent.

This particular car is one of the best driving examples I've had the pleasure of experiencing. The steering is tight. alignment is perfect. and brakes are great. The transmission is smooth and satisfying to run through. and the sound of the Sport Exhaust is glorious. The seats are perfectly cushioned and everything you see and touch from the drivers seat is in excellent condition. I find this era of 911 one of the most enjoyable there is and this car is a perfect example of a why they are so great.

There is a reason these early 911's are increasing in value at such a rapid pace. They are great fun to drive. are relatively reasonable to maintain and are one of the most iconic designs in automotive history.
