1981 ALFA ROMEO 1750 SPIDER VELOCE - PROJECT

I am selling my left hand drive 1981 ALFA ROMEO VELOCE KAMM TAIL SPIDER in metallic silver with tan interior. Ex FLORIDA car imported in 1991 and with all import/ownership docs.  Last MOT April 2012. Not taxed. would need to be towed or 'trailered' away.  Spica fuel injection system. Chrome not rubber bumper. Series 3 leather seats fitted (not original). New hood fitted in the last 3 years.  I have carried out an engine strip and top end rebuild and the following is a list (although not exhaustive) of items I have replaced with receipts:-ValvesValve guidesPiston ringsHead gasketOffside engine mountNew plugs and leadsBosch 'blue' distributorOil filterFuel pumpLP and HP fuel filtersPertronix 'Flame Thrower' electronic distributor (not fitted but included)ThermostatPropshaft centre supportPointsCondenser
The bodywork is sound and the floors are solid having previously been undersealed throughout. I have inspected the entire underbody and can see NO corrosion. Some small bodywork items addressed by the previous owner. Chip in windscreen. Chrome in fair to good state. Paint needs a little attention. Bonnet replaced in recent years by previous owner. Doors. boot lid. boot floor and sills all seem very good with no serious corrosion evident. Exhaust system sound. Brakes good. Tyres good. Original Campagnolo alloys. but please note that the wheels were repainted by previous owner- not a great job in my opinion. I would consider a great improvement would be 'steels' with original alfa hubcaps with the silver coachwork!Though engine has been rebuilt. it has not been driven but has been started regularly. Cylinder head attachment nuts will need re-torque in accordance with manufacturers instructions after recommended 'running in' mileage. Spica system- car starts and using Wes Ingrams Spica manual have set up throttle inputs. However fuel cut off micro switch open circuit at all times (suspect micro switch). I have not attempted to adjust mixture settings at any length although this is recommended if staying with the Spica system. I was considering reverting to carburettors as this may be a viable option for these engines - Weber or Dellorto. If you are reading this you will probably be familiar with all of this. Viewing is highly recommended and I would strongly advise prior to bidding. This is an honest and genuine sale and the above as far as I'm aware is true but of course it is 'sold as seen'. Reason for selling is time constraints and space. This is an appreciating classic which I am sure will go to a good home and in the right hands will be a superb. head turning classic in time. Cash on collection preferred or paypal. Will accept a cheque but will have to clear before collection.
Low start and fair reserve I believe.

Having just returned from work. I can see a fair bit of interest in the car. My wife has tried to answer any questions. but with so many import/export from and into the U. S we can only  verify what the registration documents reflect and the import documents into the UK. The V5 doc states that this is indeed a '1750 Spider with a 2000cc engine'. We can only list based on the information we have. Again. if you are interested in the car. I would always advise viewing to satisfy any queries you may have. Car has been running absolutely fine. However when I tried starting it this morning. it started but was running inconsistently. Now it is not running. Fuel flow but no spark at the plugs. Suspect distributor or coil.

Just a note to say I've added some pics (though not great) to try to show the clean rust free windscreen surround. sills. underside (underseal). the bottom of the doors are clean and rot free. I have fitted a new battery and as stated earlier had trouble starting it today - plenty of fuel going in but weak spark! Maybe an earth prob as it has been sat. or possibly coil (though this is pretty new) . I am going to try the Pertronix ignition unit on it tomorrow. but please rest assured the engine does run very nicely and has no signs of post rebuild noises etc. I f this is to be the main project car for you then it will be a good one with not a huge amount of work in the right hands. Obviously the winning bidder will be collecting and I will run through everything with him/her! An honest car from an honest enthusiast! Cheers
