OVERVIEW

You know I love classic trucks. You must. because I have sold 18 of them in 2014 and we are only a month into the year!

Nothing is more fun than having a classic toy that everyone loves to look at. and is actually functional when it comes time to pack your chairs and cooler for the show.

The best thing is getting to have a show toy that is also a well sorted out daily driver that can take you anywhere in the Country and still have a chance to win a trophy!

That’s what this incredible big back window Chevrolet pickup is. and it is ready and waiting for a new owner to share it with the rest of the Nation.

DESCRIPTION

The first thing you notice about this beautiful Chevrolet is that it looks a little cleaner and more modern than most. Then you realize that it’s because the builder painstakingly grafted the bed from a 1989 Chevrolet Silverado to this truck making it a combination of two era’s in the GM timeline.

This was no backyard build. and you can see from the chassis photos below that the install was carefully done to appear as though it was made at the factory!

It looks fantastic on the truck. and many people come up and ask about it because it sets it apart from the rest of the pack.

The bed. combined with the rest of the 1958 truck and other modernized components. has been tagged with the moniker “SOME OLD – SOME NEW” on the tailgate. because that is exactly what it is. some of the old parts that have been lovingly restored or replaced alongside a substantial upgrade to the powertrain. wiring. steering. braking. and interior to make it a safe and reliable modern day long hauler!

The cab on the truck is an all steel 1958 cab with a clean Florida title matching the VIN plate with 3A58N109144 showing on it.

The cab is super solid and clean. and I can take a 4”x4” felt covered magnet over the entire thing and it sticks like glue.

The big back window is rare and highly desirable. and it. along with the side glass and windshield. is in very good condition with no cracks or chips. and only the light normal markings from 56 years of being on the road.

The bed is super solid and clean. and has a modern poly bed liner inside to protect it. plus a modern aluminum-framed snap on tonneau cover that allows access to the tailgate without the need to unsnap it.

The whole truck was stripped and etched before being treated to multiple coats of PPG DAR47092 Aqua Turquoise and getting buffed to a shiny finish.

The paint is slick. bright. and glossy. and shows as wonderfully in person as it does in the 75 photos below.

There are a handful or so very minor marks like miniscule stone chips and hairline scuffs from normal use. but nothing that you wouldn’t find on anything else at a regional car show event.

The striping and lettering on the truck is tasteful and clean. and could be removed without much effort should you desire to personalize the exterior another way.

Bright work on the truck is minimal and clean. including chrome wiper arms. chrome mirrors. chrome front grill section. chrome headlamp trim surrounds. and chrome tail light covers. All of it is in very good condition and looks great on the truck. In addition. a complete grill and headlamp surround painted to match the truck are also included in case you ever want to switch it up and have a monochromatic look.

The truck rides on American Racing Torque-Thrust wheels that have been painted to match in the same Aqua Turquoise. They look fantastic. and show to be damage free.

Tires are like new all around. and are modern radials for excellent handling and water shedding capability. They are sized 275/60R15 in the back. and 225/70R15 up front. All four tires are damage free. and have at least 85% of the useable tread remaining on them.

Inside the truck. you are greeted by a comfortably modernized interior that is a perfect place for you and your passenger to spend time in while cruising the countryside.

Factory dash is fitted with a chrome and billet gauge surround that looks amazing. and is filled with new AutoMeter Pro gauges for OIL. FUEL. WATER. VOLTS. with a large SPEEDO that has an odometer and trip meter in it. All of the gauges appear to be functional and accurate. although I have not had them calibrated or certified.

The factory ashtray still opens and closes. and the 12v outlet is functional as well.

Glove box opens to reveal a useable storage space.

The seat came from another vehicle. and has been tastefully covered in a neutral shade to compliment the rest of the interior. It is low cut. comfortable. and provides plenty of room for even the largest drivers or passengers to get in the cab and find comfort. The finish on it is extra clean. and it has no rips. stains. seam pulls. or damage of any kind.

The builder and prior owner did not smoke or have pets. and the truck cabin has no odors of any kind.

Carpeting is a thick automotive grade that is installed over heat and sound proofing. It has styled steel plates to hold it down on the edges. and shows to be clean and undamaged.

A custom made center console has storage for personal items. and houses two of the speakers from the four speaker system. The stereo deck itself is a cassette unit. but could easily be replaced by a more modern unit while still keeping the dash the way it is. The stereo sounds really good. and if you have cassettes. it may be the perfect match for you! AM/FM stereo functions as it should as well.

A working 12v fan is set to the right side of the console. and really only needs to be used on the hottest of days. as the truck has a very good factory ventilation set up between the vents and windows. There is plenty of room under the hood and dash should you elect to add air conditioning down the road.

A GM steering column was fit to the truck. and it has tilt. cruise control. and the high beam switch for the headlamps installed on it. It is topped with a small sport steering wheel in 4 spoke aluminum with a leather wrap that looks like new.

With the wheel and power steering. the truck is a breeze to maneuver at all speeds.

A factory style headliner looks like new and is damage free. along with driver and passenger sun visors.

A modern style GM twin light dome lamp is ceiling mounted. but is not functional at this time. Neither is the factory original dome light. I am not sure why. and the prior owners family did not know either.

Under the hood. a GM 350ci V8 motor was installed. I do not have any numbers to tell you what it is out of. and the paperwork I got with the truck simply stated that it was 350 which was bored . 30 over. decked. balanced. and had the heads redone. It also said it was equipped with a mild cam 4. 42-4. 65. I know that the engine bay and motor are very clean. and that it has a good bit of chrome. polished. and billet dress up items on it as well.

A set of headers leads to a custom full length 2. 5” Aluminum exhaust with REAL Flowmasters. and it has a nice rumble at idle. with a good bark under acceleration.

An aluminum radiator with high volume water pump is covered by a stainless fan shroud to help keep it cool. and it must work. because even in our current 87 degree weather. the truck stayed under 185 the whole time I was letting it idle for these photos.

It has not leaked or wept fluid while in my care at the store. shows no signs of any issues.

The tranny. according to the paperwork I received. is a GM Turbo 400 out of something. and it said it was rebuilt with new bearings. seals. 3. 40 gearing. and a mild shift kit. It is a GM 12 bolt. which are pretty bulletproof by nature. and it shifts incredibly smooth and easy when cruising. but will kick down with ease when you need the extra get up and go.

Power brakes consist of GM disc units up front and drums in the rear. and they appear to be functioning perfectly. The truck slows without any odd wander or fade. and feels like a much newer truck.

The power steering is GM as well. and is a 1. 75 ratio unit.

The truck starts. idles. and runs cleanly. Acceleration is snappy and quick. and the truck does not bog down.

It is a joy to drive. and feels like a newer truck when cruising the highway.

In town. the power steering and brakes make it easy to negotiate city blocks and parking lots with equal grace. and the truck stays cool the whole time you are driving it.

The previous own had purportedly driven this truck to the Midwest and back to Florida once without any incidents. and I have personally put about 125 miles of both city and freeway driving on it without any issues at all. I see no reason you couldn’t fly in and drive this truck home anywhere you were willing to drive it.

It was finished in early 2002. and has only logged just over 3. 00 miles since built. so everything still shows wonderfully inside and out.

If you are looking for classic style with a twist of new. a modern powertrain and running gear. all wrapped up in a comfortable. easy to drive an maintain package that can still grab you a trophy at the car show. this truck is the one for you.
