Lincoln : Continental 4-door convertible

Up for auction is a 1966 Lincoln Continental Convertible. nbsp; in very nice driver condition.

This car was originally sold by a Lincoln dealership  in Monterey. California. It was purchased  from the original owner in 2003 and put into a large collection in Carmel Valley.  CA. where it was stored in an indoor.  air conditioned facility.   The car was occasionally driven.  and was maintained by a staff mechanic.  I purchased it in November of 2012.   Since then it has been stored indoors. while various restoration work has been completed at a nearby mechanic. See below.

Runs and drives- This car starts and runs smoothly (new fuel pump. carburetor and battery). shifts and drives nicely. and has a nice ride (newer shocks and suspension work).   The engine is quiet and there are no exhaust leaks from the manifolds (new manifolds and manifold gaskets. and new exhaust  from the manifolds to the mufflers).   Brakes work great. and steering is responsive with little wandering.   Top has been serviced and goes up and down nicely.

Mileage- The odometer reads 33. 36. Given the known history and the wear on the brake and gas pedal. mileage is more likely to be 133. 36.

Windows-    All window switches have been rebuilt by Brewer Classic Lincoln and work beautifully.   Rear door auto-drop has been serviced and works properly.   All window tracks have been fully lubricated and windows go up and down with ease.

Armrests-  Plastic armrests have been rebuilt. Nice and solid.

Paint- Body color is  Powder Blue. which is the original color of this car.  The car has been painted sometime in the last 10 years.  Has a scattering of chips and nicks. Several spots have cracks showing in the pairt.   Overall shiny. nice looking paint.   Looks great from 10 feet.

Body-   Body is nice and straight with no significant dents or dings.

Bumpers-  Overall. nice chrome. straight and shiny. with a scattering of minor dings and scratches. Top/middle of  front bumper has some surface rust directly under the grill center. Steel wool and chrome paint will minimize this.

Stainless Steel Exterior Trim- Peak molding trim all in very nice shape. Wheel well trim all excellent.   Rocker moldings excellent

Upholstery of seating surfaces and floor carpeting is brand new. Looks great and is VERY COMFORTABLE.  Trunk area has original carpeting which is worn and frayed.  A spare tire and spare tire cover will be included.

Automatic Door Locks- WORK LIKE NEW.

Clock- The clock works great!!. Newly quartz converted and restored.

Interior Trim- Both the dash and steering wheel have a crack in the normal locations.   Chrome is  nice.

Top Cloth- Crisp. white vinyl top. Older. but in nice condition. Has several  nicks along the front edge.

Dash Board- Has a crack in the normal spot by the speaker grill. (I have a very nice. original UNCRACKED black dash which you could purchase separately).

Steering Wheel- Cracked in the usual spots

Radio- AM - Radio works great and antenna goes up and down properly.  

Tilt Steering- Nice. working. nbsp; rare option.

Seat Controls- Work beautifully.

Brakes- Work great. New master cylinder.  New brake cylinders. Fully serviced and adjusted. Brake hoses recently replaced.

Front End-  Center link recently replaced

Motor Mounts- Replaced with NOS parts.

Transmission Mounts- Replaced with NEW.

Radiator and Surge Tank- No leaks. Fluid has been replaced.

Engine- Runs very nicely and quietly. California emissions system has been removed and all vacuum ports for that system have been sealed.   Oil has been changed.

Power Steering Pump- Removed and new gasket applied. New floppy seal installed.

Water Pump- Recently rebuilt!

Transmission- Transmission has been rebuilt in the last 10 years. Shifts nicely.   Tranny fluid has been replaced.  Transmission modulator has been replaced.

Carburetor- New Edelbrock 1406. New air filter. new vacuum advance.

Distributor- new points and condenser.

Fuel Pump- Just replaced along with the fuel filter!

Fuel Lines- Replaced at gas tank. wheel well and engine compartment.

Battery- Just replaced! NEW

Tires- Recently replaced.   1. 75" whitewalls

Exhaust- System was completely replaced sometime in the last few years.  New. front to back.

Exhaust Manifolds- Recently replaced along with new gaskets.

Shocks and Springs- Leaf springs re-arched and a new leaf added to each side. Newer  shocks. The car sits and rides nicely.  

A/C- Compressor works and clutch is good.  Does not blow cold.   Needs freon and service.

Lights-All turn signals. brake lights. headlights and backup lights work fine. Emergency lights do not blink

Windshield- Overall excellent.

Windshield wipers work great.   Squirter motor works

MISC- I have gone over the car and replaced or upgraded various parts with correct originals or modern reproductions. This has improved originality. made things look crisper. and made the car run better. Examples include hood insulators. hood bumpers. adjustment of front bumper alignment. nbsp; missing drivers door lock clip. missing window clips. replacement of various nuts. bolts and finish fasteners. correction of incorrect switch toggles. swapping out corroded chrome pieces for nice ones. installation of missing ignition switch plastic bezel. replacement of various brake. fuel system and engine components. etc. etc. etc.   There is always more you can do on any of these cars. but  this one is looking very nice.

In Summary- This is a nice running. driving car that has had some significant work done in bringing it to its' current operating condition.   During my ownership of this car. it has not been extensively road tested.   It has not been driven on the freeway and has not been driven over 40 miles an hour on the street.  Accordingly. this car should  be fully inspected by your mechanic and any necessary additional work performed prior to driving it.
