ford cortina mk2 1600gt stunning complete rebuild all ready to show

Welcome to the  sale of my Cortina Mk2 gt

I've spent over a year on the car  rebuilding it for myself and intended to use it for shows as my love for old Fords is second to none .  I am testing the water so to speak  to see how much interest I get (anyone that knows me who has seen my cars will know im a sucker for detail and I don't do things for a simple fix. I do the job right or better).

my last project a ford mustang 1966  was a show stopper. also I did a mk1 3. 0 capri which won two concourse awards.

Right the car - well it was a rebuilt shell  and no rust now anywhere all steel.   It was painted  in 2 k and I have plenty of paint left over including the silver flash too .

It's not a ford colour I wanted a really deep blue (oxford )and some  basic mods only which are. /p>

The bodywork was painted about 8 months ago and I stopped it for a while and  concentrated on the mechanicals.   The engine was good but I always strip them down to inspect. which I did and it was  fitted with a few new valves all reground and  then the bores of the head  . were given a really good clean.   I spent hours on that before it was refitted its not unleaded.

The engine was cleaned and reassembled with new seals etc and painted .

All working parts were painted. refitted and then once installed I converted to alternator .

All suspension was stripped and painted  in 2k black and the  brakes were rebuilt with. brand new callipers. new pipes. discs and wheel cylinders .

The exhaust is sound . so refitted that and I had the gearbox fully rebuilt to be safe and a brand new clutch  installed and  it was a n. o. s. English made one .

The suspension was fitted with new bushes and also  the front suspension  was stripped cleaned painted fitted with new  bushes too .

Once the car was running everything is working oil water. amps. gen lights lights washers. lasher. horn. but the petrol gauge is temperamental. I even got the interior lighter working as its new. and the interior light too.

The interior carpets are new. new seats belts modern type  not lap  ones . The seats are all good except the drivers seat which is worn on the base part only and is repairable wont cost the earth to do .

The headlining was also removed  but. as it was good. I just repainted it so its the original type .

All outer and inner door glass seals new but I re -used the outer door seals and the aperture seals . The only one that's missing is the drivers outer as it was damaged and  I now know they are being made but I haven't got one as yet .

So we have a show quality Cortina mk2 gt  which looks stunning . /p>

the photos I can put  onto a disc for the history file unfortunately  I don't have much I have the v5 in my name for nearly two years now .

Im sure I have forgotten many things  when I remember I will add details in the listing . the numbers plates are new. new front lights. the chromes good and straight . the grill was  masked and painted just like it should be in satin black  one of the light bezels is  not perfect  but straight . the floor before paint was  painted in red oxide then stone chip and layers of blue as is inside the boot and engine bay  .

the gt would of had  the satin black inside to match the door panels and interior black but I fancied blue   .

 the original  engine fan in my opinion  is  not any good  I still have it. but I found a  new  ford fan which is off a later crossflow and  cools the engine better .   extended wheel studs to take alloys and new wheel nuts  too.   all the bolts on the car are mostly new  as is the engine ones which have a engine dress kit  which hold the gearbox to the engine .

another few details as I remember the mirrors are from the usa I saw them and really liked the retro design as they are replica 1950/1960s   . also the washer bottle fitted to the cortina mk2 are hard to find  new  and are a little small   so ive got from the usa with the FORD  motif on it  from a mustang 1960s its a nice large bag and ive made a electric pump operate that instead of the pressure pump original fitted which is still in the car as it works the wipers too. to  keep the interior looking as original as possible   .

only a minor issue due to age I never fully rebuilt the axle its got new bearings in the wheels and new seals oil. but the axle has a slight wine and I meen slight on  drive only   it has actually improved since using it .

possibly it might  improve with a treatment  you can buy now . also the carb is the original one old but clean it might in the future pay off to replace it with a  recon one to improve performance but it goes well otherwise .

for anyone who knows to have had this car restored by a professional like myself  it would of cost you  in the excess of 20 grand to have it done  .
