If you are looking for a driver quality 356 then this car is quite possibly the perfect car for you.   It has no rust on its undercarriage. the battery box and suspension points are also rust free and everything has been undercoated (including the inside of the trunk and the headlight buckets).   The pan is rock solid and there are no signs of any rust repairs to the undercarriage (or signs of rust infestation).   There are no signs of any form of collision damage however. the hood on the passenger side does not have perfect fit.   All other body panel gaps are good and the doors. bonnet and deck lid all operate perfectly.

The car is equipped with four chrome rims and matching nipple hubcaps.   The tires are virtuallly new.   The suspension is in good shape and the car has a new steering coupler installed.   The car has original tools and jack but does not come with a spare rim or tire.

The brake system is entirely new with a new dual cylinder master cylinder and new wheel cylinders (all 6 of them). In addition. the front metal brake lines are new. the fluid resevoir is new and the soft brake lines are blue and new.   The original single cylinder master cylinder and metal reservoir will be sold with the car.

The car is fitted with Weber carbs. aftermarket intakes and aftermarket air cleaners.   These carbs were rebuilt in 2013.   The original Solex carbs. intakes and black "coffee cans" will accompany the car and it can be returned to stock form.

The car's rear main seal was replaced in 2013 and the engine received an "engine out" service at the same time.   The engine has new valve cover gaskets and adjustable push rod tubes.   The engine is not currently leaking oil (but I cannot guarantee that it willl not start tomorrow).   When the engine was out the clutch. throw out bearing and flywheel were inspected.   There were all in acceptable condition and were not replaced.   The clutch had about 30% wear and it simply did not need replacing.

Please note. there there was some seepage on the front nose of the tranny.   In order to cure this. I had a new front tranny shifter sea installed and the gear oil refilled.   This corrected the seepage and the car is not leaking oil at any location.   The prior owner had replaced the shift coupler and it appears to be virtually new.   The shifter bushings are acceptable but. in my opinion. the shifter is a little loose.   This is not an issue for me as it does not rattle and easily shifts.

The interior has leather front and rear seats and a newer carpet kit (not original squareweave though).   The headliner is not torn or stained.   The radio is original to the car and actually works.   All guages work except for the clock.   The windshield wipers are also operational.   However. the front turn signals are inop and the passenger side headligt is inop on low beam.   This probably means that the car needs a new turn signal switch and/or a headlight relay.

A note about this car's paint:  the paint in the photos look very good.   This is primarily because I am hell on wheels with a can of carnuba and a random orbit buffer.   In addition. I am a halfway decent photographer.   However. if there is a defect with this particular car then it is the paint.   While I find it to be completely acceptable as is (and have no plans to paint the car). the paint is no better than driver quality and has some defects in it.   In example. there is a slight bubble on the driver's side fender which is accompanied by some orange peel (on the top of the car near the windshield frame). there is another one on the front nose of the car (photo below and this is the worst spot on the car) and there are two small bubblles on the passenger side door.   These are completely invisible to the casual observer but. upon close examination. they are present (see pic below).   In addition. there are several nicks in the paiint which have been filled with touch-up paint.

Again. the paint is acceptable "as is" but I do not want the pictures to be misleading in any fashion.   Thus. if you are looking for a concourse level car then please keep looking as the paint is driver quality (and will be until the car gets painted).

On the subject of paint. I cannot confirm that black is the original color of this car or if this is a numbers matching car because I have not ordered the COA from Porsche.   As I do not plan on ordering the COA. I cannot confirm paint color or engine/tranny numbers.   If that sort of thing is important to you then you should continue to look for another 356.

If this car has a major advantage over the competition then it is its ability to driven for long distances at high rates of speed.   I have personally diven this car over 400 miles (and would like to drive it several thousand more).   I personally would have no problem driving this car anywhere in the continental US (my plan was to take it to the EU for a driving tour of France and Germany but life is full of suprises).   If you live in the continental United States and you buy this car in the Spring or Summer then I will personally drive it to your doorstep (and I will even pay for the gas).   While I cannot recall the exact rates of speed that I have driven this car at (and reserve my 5th Amendment right to refuse to testify against myself). I can say the car will drive at a very high rate of speed for a very long tiime.

If you are interested in seeing the car being driven then you can see videos of it on my YouTube channel. TheBavarianMotors.

In sum. this is a well maintained. well sorted. driver quality 356.   The car is not perfect but. for a 50+ year old car. it is in very good shape and does not suffer the malady of far too many pre-1976 Porsches (meaning it ain't a rust bucket).
