*******************************************************Relisting. New Details**************************************************************
The Buy It Now winner came to inspect the car after hitting Buy It Now. He asked if he could secure the car. inspect it and. if he was not satisfied. pay for my troubles. I was confident that he would be happy and gave him the ok to commit.   He inspected the car and became skeptical about the authenticity of it being what the vin. door tag and frame stampings claim. His fear was that he felt that the entire rear quarters where replaced to save face with the factory AMX emblem holes. thus leading him to believe the vin and door data tag were not to this car and frame stampings were forged. Another sign to add to his skepticism was he felt it was cloned to be an a/c car since he saw no evaporator or condenser present. leading to that someone changed the entire interior as well. All this was enough to steer him to back out. He did pay for time spent and went on his way. I latter inspected even harder to see what was concerning him so much. He had a really neat gadget! A hand held camera with a bendable. telescopic lens that he used to inspect the car in hard to see places. I don't have that luxury. so I crawled into that tiny trunk with a flash light to get the view he was able to get. I must say. it does appear that the full quarters were replaced. or at least one of them. for both sides are not consistent on the inside. Keen of him to notice. I did see where he was coming from. But as for the interior being not true to the car based on the absence of a condenser or evaporator. the evaporator box is present on the car. Unlike GM and other "brand x" cars. the box is under the dash. behind the glove box. Two cut hoses still protrude out the firewall on the left(drivers) side. One large hose. and one small belted hose. As for a condenser missing. that's just very common. Lots of people remove the condenser and cut the hoses. as if they were "cutting the fat". But those kind of folks are not going to take the time to practically remove the entire dash to get the evaporator box out.

I feel if someone where to go through the time to cut quarters and replace just to have consistent AMX badge holes. they would had at least put the right engine in the car. How to tell the size of a AMC engine was the 1st trick I learned. I don't see why someone would take the time to replace the quarters. replace the vin. re-stamp the last 6 digits behind the gear box. change the interior. add the 4-speed and cowl induction hood. AMX grille. swap doors from an identical colored AMX(vin and door tag match as much as possible) and  apply a very amateur paint job when they just could had fixed the AMX all this stuff came from. I also don't understand why someone would do all the above things mentioned and bypass the windshield wiper switch with a toggle switch and use a "one size fits all" carpet kit. put a aftermarket tape player in place of a factory radio. right after executing the most involved. deceiving and calculated motions on cloning an AMX! It does. however. make sense that someone would sacrifice a common optioned AMX to lend to a much rarer AMX like this one. I know of folks that have bought beautiful '70 Rebels to sacrifice quarters to the coveted(and my favorite CAR of all time) r/w/b Rebel Machine. The reason for this update is I want to be straight up.   I know I could had just said the potential buyer didn't have the cash. but that would had just been a lie. If I turn a blind eye toward my feeling the quarters. or at least one quarter. was not factory. is just as bad as lying.   But what I still feel in my heart. is this is a factory 401. 4-speed a/c AMX.

In short. The AMX is back up for sale and I'm still confident the car is what the vin claims to be. On with the original listing.
***************************************************************************************************************************************

Up for auction is my 1973 AMX Javelin. This is a factory 4-speed. 401. a/c car. though it currently has a strong 360. I don't feel I need to wax on about how rare this car is. I will instead explain in detail everything about this car. I am very honest in my descriptions. for I don't want to there to be any surprises. Too often I've bought stuff on Ebay with a description that explained only the "pros". leaving all the "cons" out. With all the details I give. I hope to assure one can bid with confidence. This AMX comes equipped with all the standard AMX package items with a few extras. 15" AMC rally wheels. rear defrost. 3:54 limited slip rear. rally steering wheel. turned metal interior trim. functional cowl induction hood. 4-speed with Hurst shifter. tic toc tach & 140 speedometer. AMX mesh grille insert. Door Tag reads as followed:

119197
7379-8
341 S
E4

I have acquired a lot of items to do a real restoration. I have two different prices; my reserve and the Buy It Now. The reserve price met gets just the car with limited loose parts. The Buy It Now prices gets everything I acquired for the car. which I have listed below. The AMX description is as followed.

Body:
The paint job is amateur level. but is a relatively solid car. There are some "blisters". like one in particular on the fiberglass cowl induction hood. from poor prepping and a few runs. The lower quarters have had work done but there are a few bubbles present from the poor prepping. Possibly a complete rear quarter on one or both sides. There are some paint chips along the rocker. There are two small spots on the driver side(left) floor pan. small enough to avoid a whole pan replacement. One could take the serious approach and replace with metal. or fill the spots with PUR-15 and be done with it. Trunk pan is clean. but still has some spots around the factory welds. There is actual rust bubble behind the rear tag bracket next to the fuel filler. Firewall is clean as well are the doors. deck lid. hood. roof. rockers etc. Does have a cracked windshield. I haven't replaced it. for I had planned to restore the car right and was going to get the new glass after paint. The crack is low enough to not effect the view while I drive the car. The grille. of course has a crack and the tabs are busted off. The front bumper is tweaked a bit. You have to really look for it. The rear bumper chrome is faded. Not show quality. I've added on the front "chin" spoiler. One of the accessories that just make the car look right.

Interior:
The interior is of driver quality. The previous owner used a "one size fits all" carpet kit. The drivers seat is in fair condition. Passenger seat stitching has came loose on the back support section. Back seat is clean. Door panels are fair(a few imperfections). Dash is nice. Passenger side kick panel has a crack. Headliner is clean. The previous owner had mixed matched screws used for the interior dash and door panels. Some sections are not screwed in as they should be. Center console is nice. Front seat belts are missing the "male" end on both sides.

Mechanical:
Engine runs strong. though it does have a small leak. Recently replaced points. condenser and also did an oil change. Has a Edelbrock Torker intake and Edelbrock manual choke carb. The T-10 4-speed was rebuilt around March of 2013(just a year ago)! It received a new 3rd gear. 3rd to 4th slider. new syncros and gaskets. Feels like there is still plenty of clutch. The car RIGHT AFTER starting makes a funny noise. I've narrowed it down to the noise coming from the starter for the noise occurs ONLY right after the car actually starts. Here is another problem I've experienced with just about every 4-speed AMC I've owned. that the starter wants to drag when trying to start after being warmed up. Has a brand new battery. I have no idea how stock or unstock the engine is. but from experience with these humpster Javelins with a 360. it would fool someone into believing it was a mild built 401. The side pipes are professionally welded straight to the headers. and they sound magnificent!

Suspension:
The front suspension needs rebuilt. A kit does go with the car. It needs. badly. the idler and pitman arm replaced. I have those in the box as well and figured it would be best just to do everything at one time. The car brakes very well with front power disc brakes and the rear drums. No leaks in the brake system. Doesn't pull to either side when braking.   Front tires are ok. rear tires are on their way out. Rims and caps are gorgeous. No wobble at any speed I've reached(I've stuck to around 80mph. but I get there VERY fast. ).

Items to go with Buy It Now:
New sill plates in the box. NOS/New tail lights. marker lights and AMX emblems. running when pulled 401 minus brackets. beautiful cowl induction air cleaner with a clean rubber seal and new actuator(actuator not installed). Sanden a/c compressor with brackets. new in the box a/c condenser. floor sound deadening kit in the box. correct left and right mirrors. correct am/fm radio. weather stripping kit. A few other items that I can't remember I will add to the pot.

Misc:
You can tell whether a previous owner of a AMC is a "AMCer" or not by how they "fix" things on the car. The owner before me was not a AMCer. The windshield wiper switch in the dash is not hooked up to the wiper assembly. Instead. there is a toggle switch below that functions the wipers. The hood latch disengage lever inside is not hooked up. Rather. there is a hidden pull latch under the bumper. I believe I have the correct cable to go back into place that will go with the car. There is an aftermarket tape player in place of a original radio. though don't worry. the overlay is not hacked up! The correct AM/FM radio with separate speaker level knob is included with the BUY IT NOW price. At some point in it's past. the 4-speed hump was ditched. but you can see from underneath that the floor pan never seen any sawzall use. The quarter panels. as stated previously. have had work. I had noticed that the right side quarter sits a little lower than the left. One could drive the car and still enjoy. but if serious. I would replace that quarter. This is a very rare. special car. It deserves the best in my opinion. The hood closes tight. the deck lid closes tight. The doors are slightly out of adjustment. though the drivers door closes tight. The passenger door closes tight. though you have to close with force. The head lights have recently began to flicker whether on high beams or not. The air breather pictured goes only with the BUY IT NOW price.

As one would imagine. this car gets the "thumbs up" everywhere I go. People often approach me at the gas pump with a Javelin story. If you're anti-social or just don't like talking to folks. avoid this car. I am selling this car. and all other "toys" for one reason; I'm building up down payment funds to buy a house. So please no low ball offers. I have the reserve priced fair. Please don't ask what the reserve price is. If you're looking for a awesome AMX to drive around and work on as you go. then BUY IT NOW ain't for you. If you're looking for good bones to do a serious AMX restoration and not have to hunt down a tone of parts. BUY IT NOW then comes into play.   All questions are welcome. I have assisted in shipping car all over the country and a few outside the country. I reserve the right to end auction early. for it is for sale locally. Watch out for more of my auctions. Soon I will be selling my 1982 Volkswagen Vanagon Westfalia. Pontoon boat and more AMC stuff. possibly even my "spare" 1974 AMX.

On Feb-20-14 at 14:52:37 PST. seller added the following information:

 ******************************************************************************************************
A fellow AMCer was concerned that this may be a "re-vin" clone. because the rear trim pieces was throwing him off. feeling only Javelins had those. not AMXs. He got me thinking and advised to go ahead and pull the gear box on the frame to match the vin stampings to the vin tag on the dash. I could hardly sleep last night thinking "what if?". Anyway. as soon as I got off work I pulled the box and what do you know. They MATCH! So. if anyone had any doubts about the car's authenticity. it has been verified to be legit!
