Hi and welcome to the auction for our Mark 1 Cortina.

I jointly own this car with my brother. we bought it on the 25th November 2008 as a full restoration project.

The car is a South African import. it was imported back into the UK and registered in 1974 and therefore is an M registration.

However as the build date is recognized as 1966 it is still tax exempt and classed as a historic vehicle by DVLA.

The car was originally built by Ford for Export and has the under bonnet turret braces. as all export cars had to cope with the poor roads in South Africa at the time.

Since buying the car we have striped it down to bare metal and totally rebuilt the whole bodywork befor having it professional painted in the correct Lotus Cortina colours.

The Paint work is fantastic and the car was subject to a full repaint by a professional bodyshop. it really is top quality and is also fully painted underneath in body colour.

The car is fitted with a 2000CC Ford Pinto engine which was fitted with a new fast road camshaft and followers. The engine runs well and sounds great though an Ashley exhaust system.

The car is fitted with a five speed type 9 gearbox. RS2000 rear axle and Capri front struts complete with Disc brakes.

It has also been fitted with Poly bushes and rack and pinion steering.

The car is fitted with valuable and original Minilite wheels (not copies) which we have had powder coated gold and fitted with new tyres.

The electrical systems and wiring have been repaired and replaced where required with new blade type fuse box.

The items required to complete the car are; Interior seats. carpets. door panels etc. the dash is complete and the gauges all operate. Most of the door handles. winders etc are included.

The car has all lights and windows. a new rear screen rubber is included. various other body seals will be needed but these are readily available.

The car will require front quarter bumpers and rear bumper to really finish it off nicely.

Some of the parts are from other makes. for instance we believe that the brake master cylinder and servo if from a Japanese car and the collapsible steering coluom is from a Morris Ital or other BL car judging by the light switches etc. However all the parts fitted work and do not cause any problems other than not being correct with regard to being origonal.

The wiring is 95% complete and will just need the final parts connecting once they are fitted. (interior light. etc).

The car is now sadly for sale as we have just started a new business and we feel that it will be many years before we will have the time to complete it. In addition we both own other classic cars and motorcycles so something has to go. It will be better to let the car go to an enthusiast who can complete the car and enjoy it.

The car will be fantastic when finished and it really is quite an easy task to complete which shouldn't add too much to the cost.

We are advertising the car with a £ 4000. 00 starting price and no reserve so someone will be getting a bargain.

The car is registered by DVLA as owned by me but will need to have a vehicle identity check once it is complete as according to DVLA it was subject to an insurance claim at some point. I have the paperwork from DVLA that explains this and details the procedure which is having the car viewed by your local DVLA centre to confirm that it is a Mark 1 Cortina. which it is!!!!!

Please feel free to ask any questions. the car is kept at our works address so any viewings will have to be done between 8 am and 4. 30pm Monday to Friday.

I hope the car finds a new owner that will complete the car and enjoy it the way that it should be.

Best regards Brian.
