The Porsche 911 is the flagship of the German manufacturer. It
has a distinctive design. rear-engined. with independent rear
suspension. an evolution of the swing axle on the Porsche 356.
Since its introduction in 1963. the 911 has undergone continuous
development although the basic concept has remained little
changed. Throughout its lifetime. the 911 has been modified
by private teams and by the factory itself for racing. rallying and
other forms of competition and is among the most successful
competition cars ever. The earliest edition of the 911 had a flat
six engine in the 'boxer' configuration. similar to the 356. br/>air-cooled. rear-mounted and displaced 1991cc. It was mated to a
four or five-speed manual 'Type 901' gearbox. The car had four
seats although. as the rear seats were quite small. the car is
usually referred to as a 2+2 rather than a four-seater. Styling was
largely by Ferdinand 'Butzi' Porsche. son of Ferdinand 'Ferry'
Porsche. although Erwin Komenda. who was the leader of the Porsche
car body construction department. was also involved in the
design.

This stunning example was originally of Californian origin and
was imported into the UK a number of years ago. Restored by the
current vendor to a very high standard. this fine example should
whet the appetite of any serious Porsche collector. Mechanically. br/>we are advised BAN 540G drives as she should with a sharp
responsive throttle action. smooth gearchange and good handling.
Cosmetically she has had considerable work carried out thus
resulting in beautiful straight bodywork with excellent panel fit
and outstanding paintwork finish in Bordeaux. The interior trim. in
tan. has been kept as original as possible and presents in fine
order. taking into account this Porsche is 45 years old. Supplied
with a V5 registration document and a full year's MoT test
certificate together with the original driver's manual and service
books. this is. without doubt. one of the finest 911's we have seen
for some time.
