1967 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray 427 Roadster

Now in its sixth generation. ‘America's sports car' was launched to tremendous acclaim in 1953. Though visually stunning. the mechanical aspects of this first iteration were a little dated and consequently the performance & handling were not quite as impressive as the appearance. However. constant development and improvement over the course of its span paved the way for next. far superior generation. the C2 or Sting Ray. Named for Chevrolet design chief. Bill Mitchell's racecar. the Sting Ray. its shape was principally inspired by a Mako shark that Mitchell caught whilst deep-sea fishing in Florida in 1960. Featuring an independent rear suspension amongst a host of other improvements. the all-new Corvette was now as capable as it was handsome. The engineering team did not rest on their laurels however. Four-wheel disc brakes were added in 1965 and this being the zenith of the muscle car era. engine options increased to dizzying proportions culminating in the ultimate line up for '67. The venerable 427 cu. in. big-block was the largest displacement engine ever fitted in a Corvette to that point and when paired with a four-speed manual transmission. became an unbeatable combination.

This particular car was blessed with both options from the factory along with the extremely desirable side mount exhausts. cast aluminum wheels. removable hard top. AM-FM radio. power windows & power brakes. Finished in its gorgeous original colour scheme of Marina Blue with complementary Bright Blue interior. it is truly breathtaking. The matching-numbers. 390 hp engine fires instantly and pulls like a freight train all the way through the four gears. the throaty burble from the pipes rising to a howl as the surrounding landscape blurs before you. A quick stab of the middle pedal brings the scenery back to focus with extreme efficiency however.
Though sadly. the tank sticker is no longer with the car. there are receipts back to the seventies. showing that. at least since then. it has always been a California car.

The C2 (or mid-year Corvette. as it subsequently became known) is one of the most recognized and popular classic cars of all time and the big-block roadster. like this car. the most sought after of them all. How better to catch a piece of the American dream than cruising the highways in this iconic machine?
