Mid 1964. Ford Motor Co. took the world by surprise by introducing the Ford Mustang.   It was the most successful automobile launch in American history and undoubtedly of all time.   A car that had quenched the thirst of American car buyers and delivered exactly what was needed.    It was an automobile that inspired cars like the Barracuda. the Pontiac Firebird. Camaro and Challenger and that inspiration even carried over to our foreign competitors from Toyota to help design the Celica.   It is usually a culture that creates a car. however in 1964 for the first time. a car created the culture. It was a family sports car that had it all.   Bucket seats. floor shifter and large enough to seat 4 but small enough to be a great looking sports car.   Lee Iaccoca listened. watched and learned what America was all about in the 50's and 60's and challenged his designers and engineers to sum up America's pride. and its hard work. blood. sweat and tears and build a car around where we've been and where we were going.   Even today. if we would ask our best designers and engineers to think about what America was all about “back in the day”.   To research that. study it and use those thoughts and ideas on paper and build a car that encompasses that symbolization.   There is no way. even with all the technology and tools would they be able to come up with the Mustang.

The launch of the Mustang was so successful that it sold 22. 00 units the very next day after the commercial aired.   For the 7 or so months left in 1964 Ford had sold over 263. 00 units and nearly doubled that in 1965 by selling more than 418. 00 units.   By 1966 over 607. 00 Mustangs were produced and sold breaking the million mark after only18 months since its debut.   It was certain that Mustang was here to stay and assured us that this car would never get side tracked from its original intent and from 1964 to 2014 Mustang stayed true to its heritage.

This particular 1966 Mustang that is offered here today became a labor of love for its current owner.   It was a learning experience between a father and son and many of afternoons and nights were spent restoring this car to how you see it here today.   It became if we do this then we might as well do that.   The “have to haves” were endless and when there was no more “just one more thing” left. the car was enjoyed at local shows and cruise nights.   And the car spent many evenings cruising the streets of NJ at dusk just because.   Is the car perfect? No. but it was perfect for its current owner especially when the car was built. just he and his son. The owner is a diehard Mustang fan and collector.

Exterior:

As you can see from the pictures this Mustang is beautiful in its appearance.   Dressed in Coca Cola red. it shines excellent and the chrome is brilliant.   The paint would be considered a 10 footer.   To make it even more brilliant. a good wet sand. compound. buff and polish would enhance the paint and smooth it out.   Looking up close you can see some flaws that would be corrected with the wet sand.   It is excellent driver quality. but you will not win any concourse judging.   The chrome is all new and the vinyl top is brand new and added for contrast.   The aftermarket American Aluminum Racing Wheels really ads to the way this car sounds.   The tires are new as well.   The owner does have the original steel wheels and hub caps that will go with the purchase of the car.   Also. the lower rocker stainless steel was removed and smoothed and chrome door sills were added.   The original stainless does come with the car as well.   All the glass is in excellent condition and all stainless has been replaced and is in new condition.   The body is all original and is extremely solid.   There was only 1 spot that was fixed on the lower driver's quarter and was fixed with metal.   The shock towers. rad supports. cowl and subframes are all solid and in excellent condition.   The restoration is highly documented and a book of receipts are included that documents the amount of money spent on this restoration.   Please look at the pictures and video below and let us know of any questions.

Interior:

As you can see from the pictures the interior is absolutely brand new in every way.   NO EXPENSE was spared and it shows perfectly.   You'll notice the 5 speed gear shift that we'll get to later.   Everything works on the inside and the owner went through the lengths to even put LED lighting in the dash.   The vintage a/c blows nice and cold and all the gauges work perfectly.   The radio even comes with an ipod hook up and is played through an aftermarket radio that sits perfectly in the dash and through upgraded great sounding speakers.   The dash original and in excellent condition. the seats are new. the carpet is new and the headliner is in excellent condition.   The door panels are in excellent condition and the doors have been painted the same color as the exterior and really look great.   The rear glass was removed and replaced.   The rear deck lid is new as well.   If you can think of it. chances are it was replaced.   The interior is new through and through and looks beautiful.   Even the ashtray removes and comes with a beverage holder for convenience and comfort.   The restoration of this interior is documented with all the receipts.   Please look at the pictures below and let us know of any questions you may have.

Drivetrain:

As you'll hear from the video. this factory 200 cu in. straight six sounds like a 289 v8.   The engine was completely rebuilt from crank to carburetor and dressed in chrome.   A Clifford Dual Exhaust Header System was added enabling you to get true dual exhaust out of a straight 6 cylinder engine.   Everything under the hood has been replaced including the wiring harness. the points and a whole new charging system.   The leaf springs are new including all new suspension parts up front.   The actual rear was rebuilt as well.   The radiator was upgraded to keep the engine running cool even when the a/c is on.   The original 3 speed tranny was removed and a T5 5 speed manual transmission was added for great drive ability and cruising.   It really makes the difference.   Along with the rebuilt transmission the clutch has been replaced as well.   Again. when it came to getting everything out of the factory straight 6. no expense was spared.   All the brakes have been redone as well.   The exhaust has been upgraded to duals and sounds great.    There are roughly 5000 miles on this complete rebuild and comes with full documentation.   Feel comfortable flying in and driving home and then driving this car every day.

In Summation:

This 1966 Mustang is a true example of a labor of love.   It looks great. it sounds awesome and is very reliable.   The owner is selling only because he bought a 1973 Mach 1 that he wants to do the same to it as he has done to his 66.   It's time to let someone else enjoy this car and keep the heritage alive.   Again. this car is not perfect. but could be perfect for you.   Its something you can be proud of and enjoy for many years to come.   And with a reserve set for about ½ of what the owner has put into it. it will certainly fit into any level of collector's budget.   Please let us know of any questions you may have.   Enjoy the pictures and video below.
