SELLER REMARKS

One of the more outrageous products of the 1950s. this 1959 Lincoln Continental convertible is proof that bigger was better. and more of everything was exactly what the public was looking for. With a great color combination and a very cool convertible top. this is a great '50s cruiser with a ton of eyeball appeal.

Compared to. say. the 1959 Cadillacs. you could probably call this Continental convertible restrained. but it sure ain't subtle! It's about as long as a city bus and offers some of the most dramatic body sculpting of the era. Canted and stacked headlights are inside a peaked fender. whose line extends all the way back to the chrome-plated fins out back. Repainted in original code 01 Presidential Black. it looks just as sophisticated as you'd expect. The work was nicely done. not perfect. but good enough to make people stop and point as it rolls by. and you could spend hours examining all the wonderful styling details and still not see them all. The Continental brand was folded back into Lincoln following the Mark II. but they didn't hold back. and these land behemoths were unquestionably the top-of-the-line in 1959. There's a small fortune invested in the restoration of the trim on this car. from the dramatically styled front bumper to the rocker panel trim to the wickedly ornate tail panel with six light pods across its face. You want impressive? There's a lot of stuff here to like.

The handsome black and white interior looks like it could be original. and it offers a wonderful symphony of colors. textures. and patterns that's far more subtle than the bodywork. The jet age was in full swing. and things like the ornate steering wheel emphasize the aircraft influence that was sweeping through the industry. The awesome instrument panel with its gold anodized face groups all the controls in front of the driver. including the signal-seeking AM radio. There's an under-dash A/C unit that's been converted to R134a refrigerant and offers modern components under the hood. so it's more effective than the original would have been. and power accessories like windows. seats. and top are part of the package. Speaking of the top. it's an insanely complex (and fully functional) mechanism that includes a vertical glass rear window that disappears behind the back seat as a separate assembly. much like the Mercury Turnpike Cruiser of the same vintage. And unlike its younger siblings from the '60s. this one has a traditional front-hinged trunk that's nicely finished with gray fabric.

The giant 430 cubic inch V8 makes this big convertible an effortless cruiser on the highway and reasonably sprightly around town. Interestingly. it shares no components with any Ford models. and as a result has a bespoke feeling from behind the wheel that's completely unique. The engine runs smooth with a muted rumble that suggests great power and the under-hood area seems as formal as the rest of the car. as it's now dressed in black. Aside from the upgraded A/C system. there are no real deviations from stock. and the undercarriage is much the same. Amazingly. this is a unit-bodied car. so a solid chassis is critical. and you'll find that while it's quite original. it's also quite nicely preserved. Trailing arms and coil springs make for a great ride and decent handling. and power brakes and steering are. of course. mandatory on something this size. Fat BFGoodrich Silvertown whitewall tires have a very correct look. especially with factory hubcaps inside.

With amazing styling. a beautiful color combo and unique looks. this big black Lincoln will definitely stand out and its superior driving dynamics will make it a favorite. Call today!
