RARE PONTIAC MERA #82 OF 247 MADE FERRARI 308 GTB LOOK A LIKE NOT A KIT for sale
Current customer rating: (434 votes ) based onTHIS AUCTION IS FOR A 1988 PONTIAC MERA. THIS CAR IS VERY DIFFERENT THAN A 308 KIT/REPLICA. IN FACT IT IS NOT A KIT. IT WAS PROFESSIONALLY BUILT AND SOLD BY PONTIAC DEALERS. THIS CAR HAD TO BE PURCHASED/ORDERED STRAIGHT FROM A PONTIAC DEALER IN 1987-1988. A BRAND NEW FIERO HAD TO BE BOUGHT & THEN THE UPGRADE TO THE MERA ORDERED AT THE SAME TIME AT THE DEALERSHIP. THE CAR WOULD THEN BE PROFESSIONALLY BUILT BY CORPORATE CONCEPTS IN MICHIGAN. THE RESULT OF THIS IS A CAR THAT HAS MUCH BETTER CONSTRUCTION & WITHOUT THE USUAL IMPERFECTIONS FOUND IN AFTERMARKET "KITS". CORPORATE CONCEPTS WOULD NOT DO THIS CONVERSION ON ANY USED FIEROS. ONLY BRAND NEW PURCHASED DIRECTLY FROM PONTIAC DEALERS! THE COST WAS HIGH ESPECIALLY FOR BACK IN 87/88. TYPICAL INVOICE WAS AROUND $24K (I HAVE ALL DOCUMENTS AND THIS ON INVOICED AT 24K).
BECAUSE OF THE STRONG SIMILARITY TO A PARTICULAR ITALIAN EXOTIC. LEGAL ISSUES FOLLOWED. & ULTIMATELY PRODUCTION OF THE MERA WAS ORDERED TO CEASE IN 1988. AS YOU CAN SEE FROM THE PICTURES MY MERA IS IN GOOD SHAPE AND RUNS AND DRIVES WELL. A/C COULD STAND TO HAVE FREON ADDED AND THE IS A SMALL MANIFOLD LEAK. NON OF THESE ISSUE INTERFERE WITH THE CARS DRIVE-ABILITY. I ALSO HAVE NEW SHOCKS AND STRUTS FOR THE CAR.
A Note About 1987 Versus 1988 Mera's:In general. all Mera's are rare & of value. However. the 1988 Fiero was improved greatly by GM in its final year. especially in terms of handling & suspension. which was similar to the Lotus design. It is a documented fact that even in terms of Fiero value & collectibility. the 1988's hold the highest value. So. when you consider that. it is obvious as to why this would also make a 1988 Mera just that much more desirable than an '87 in the same condition. if all things are equal. Also. the Chromodora wheels were included on the 1988's.

This car has Italian made Cromodora wheels valued about $500 each and a complete set of new Hankook tires. Also the original Dino steering wheel was $1300
My full coverage insurance through Hagerty Classic Car runs about $300 a year.
